Saturday afternoon, hubby got a contact stuck in his eye..he spent almost one hour trying to get it out...he kept pouring water into the eye, eye drops, whatever he had and nothing worked..i poured his contact cleaner drip by drip into his eye..and still that contact wouldn't come out...he rubbed his eye so hard that the whole white part was blood red..in fact at one time, his eye looked almost as if it were bleeding..just about the time when we decided we needed to visit the ER, after a home call to his eye doctor who wasn't home at the time..i looked in his eye again, and couldn't see the contact. His eyes were so dry that day..so anyway, because of what he had done to his eye, he can't wear contacts for at least thirty days..and is seriously considering laser surgery to repare his eyes so that he won't have to wear contacts again. Today his eye is still a mess..looks like he got punched..

has this happened to anyone else?

I had to stop wearing contacts because of lab work, but when I wore soft lenses I did once or twice have a situation where the lens got out of place, and ended up somewhere other than over my iris and pupil where lenses belong. If a lens gets "stuck" somewhere in the eye socket it can be tough to get it out. The solution is to figure out where it is and rotate the eye in the opposite direction to bring the lens back out into the light of day. For example, if the lens gets stuck on the upper part of the eyeball, inside the socket, then look down as far as you can, so that part of the eyeball rotates into view.

yes, i wear contact and had it happen to me a few times, i just blink a few hundred times until the contact decide to come down. That's if he wear plastic ones.

But, if he can get the surgery that would be better. i can't i'm tood blind.

his are plastic i think...flexible..meaning they bend..anyway hubby has a burst blood vessel as a result..also the doctor checked to make sure the contact hadn't slipped up under his eyelid....he said some people have had them up there for months and never realized it..

I wear soft contacts usually and I've had them get stuck in my eye I don't panic I just put a few eye drops in there let my eyes water until it comes out.

As for Laser eye surgery one of my friends had it and they thought the surgery had helped but instead after a year she realized she was loosing her eyesight. It doesn't happen often but if you plan on getting the surgery definately do some extensive research!

I dont believe in putting anything in your eye that floats around like that. just wear glasses.

it doesn't float around you goof..it stays put...usually..and anyway do you wear glasses? they are a nuisance for those who have to wear them all the time..i know i hate wearing reading glasses..

Gotta agree with maniac on this one. My wife's contact floated up out of sight years ago when she had them, we had to go to the emergency room to get it out. That settled me on staying with glasses.
I want a few more advancements in the technology before I look at the lasik surgery stuff.

um when hell freezes over..or i post in your stupid flatulence thread..

ok ii suppose contacts can float..there...satisfied?

The problem with a contact lens getting stuck in her eye happened to my grandmother many years ago, and she actually had to go to the ophthamologist's office to get it out. After that, she switched back to wearing glasses.

Sorry to hear about your husband, isabeau. Klutz that I am, I've had lenses get stuck in my eye many times, though never with consequences anywhere as serious as what happened to him. The trick is, as Redmage wrote, to roll the eye around and sometimes the lens will work its way to the front on its own. Once I even gave up trying to get one out and went to bed with it still in the back of my eyeball, and it just popped out during the night. Other times like a dope I've fallen asleep wearing my lenses and they were still clinging to my corneas--but a lot drier--in the morning.

They also make a tool that's a little teeny suction cup, attached to an inch-long handle, that's great for rescuing a contact lens off the wrong part of your eye. I carry one in my purse for just such an emergency. Your husband's optometrist should be able to give him one.

I've also had success with flooding my eye with water, then pressing gently along the far edge of the lens, to guide it gradually back towards my iris. But the suction cup method is way easier and more comfortable. 🙂

I've been wearing contacts for a while now and i've had no problems at all with mine, the worst i've had is an eyelash caught on the inside of the lens that hurt but i got out quickly. Best thing i ever done was get contacts, there far more comfortable than wearing glasses

hmm a suction cup sounds like a good idea..thanks everyone for your helpful comments...his eye is finally better..i mean on saturday it looked like it was bleeding and there was this bump formed..
