1701: William Kidd is hanged for piracy at London's Execution Dock.

1923: Curley, a Crow scout for the U.S. Army, is buried at Little Big Horn. He is thought to be one of the last men to have been seen General Custer and the men with him alive.

1934: Infamous outlaws Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker are ambushed and killed on a rural road in Louisiana. Legendary Texas Ranger Frank Hamer led the ambush party.

1960: Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann is captured by Mossad agents in Argentina. After standing trial in Israel Eichmann is convicted of crimes against humanity and hanged May 31 1962.

One of my husband's all time favorite wrestlers, Owen Hart, died 14 years ago today.

Well, technically, he cheated the hangman by jumping from the dock prematurely and snapped his own neck... but, I suppose you could say he hanged, after they tarred his body and hung it in an iron gibbet along the the Themes... in fact he 'hanged' out there for years. Bwa-ha.

I remember this vividly, seeing it on the TV news at the age of 10, realizing that he was an actual, living person who could be punished for his crimes.

You are right about that, C.A.B. But as you also note the end result was the removal of a monster from the world. That's why I didn't bring it up.

I can only imagine the emotions you, your family, and all Jewish people must have felt, as an agent of unspeakable horror and evil was finally brought before the bar of justice.

Well, as I understand it, he was more of a dupe than a monster. More like a greedy sucker, set up to fail by nefarious agencies far more clever than he. This is why I doubt there is any such thing as "Captain's Kidd's mysterious buried treasure" on Oak Island, or off Long Island, or anywhere else, for that matter. I have no doubt he squandered everything, as most pirates did. He wasn't particularly bright or savvy, and was a lousy Captain, despised by his own crew and always just a hair away from being marooned himself. Death shadowed this guy his entire career. Ironic that in the end, he did himself in. Just as well. In his case, the legend far exceeded the man.

Oh, OK. For some reason I thought you meant Eichmann, my bad. 😱 Yes, from what I've read Kidd was used by some of people in high places, and dispatched when he was no longer useful to them. I don't buy into those stories of a fortune in buried treasure either.
