My hope that is Eric Gagne will be the World Series MVP because he has 4 saves in the World Series. From that, you can figure out which team I am rooting for. 😀

I think it will be Florida vs Anaheim. Something tells me that lower payrolls will prevail, and that all the big boys such as the Yankees will be watching from home.

Should I mention that Eric Gagne got his 10th save of the season today for the first place Dodgers? Should I add that this extends his record to 73 consecutive saves without a blown save, dating back to August 2002? Or would that be boasting?

What's the record? 😕

The record is consecutive saves without ever having a blown save.

A save occurs when a relief pitcher, a) records the final out of the game, b) is not the winning pitcher of the game, and c) fulfills one of these three condtions:
1) pitches at least three innings, and is effective in the opinion of the official scorer, or
2) pitches at least one inning, and had no more than a 3-run lead when he entered the game, or
3) enters the game with the tying run on base, at bat, or on deck.

A blown save occurs when a relief pitcher enters the game with a chance to get a save under the rules above, but the tying run scores while he is pitching.
Remark: This rule is harsh on the relief pitcher. If he enters the game with a 1-run lead and runners on first and second with two outs, and induces the batter to hit an easy ground ball to the shortstop, who proceeds to throw the ball over the first baseman's head into right field, then the pitcher will be charged with a blown save as the tying run scores from second base.

Gagne last had a blown save in August 2002. Since then, he has collected 73 saves in a row without ever having another blown save. That is a major league record, by far.

That would be remarkable, but I certainly hope he does it. 😀

Gagne is about the nastiest closer in baseball. I think his stuff is best by far. Besides Gagne, my choice for other top three are Wagner with the Phillies, Rivera with the Yankees, and Smoltz with my Braves when he's on. These guys have electric stuff, and have all had great careers, but I think of all of them, Gagne is probably the one with the best stuff.

Yankees wont win anything with an All-Star team, and im saying that as a true Yankee fan 🙂

I will have to go with my Phillies. it would be a nice way to inaugurate their first season in the new ballpark. plus, they do have the as yet unseen talent to accomplish it.

and shall we say they beat the red sox?

Iam a Met fan first and a Yankee fan close second.I believe that niether of them will win this year. the mets are in the beginning stages of rebuilding with a lot of young guys, which I think is a good move for them instead of that fool Steve Phillips who would trade good young talent and trade them for guys who have been playing for 10 years and getting semi-fair years out of them(i.e. Joe Torrie,Tommy Herr,Mike Piazza,Ect)the Yanks however have practicaly the same team as last year except for A-Rod and Shefield, But I don't see the hunger in their play as I usualy do.But getting back to the matter at hand. My own humble opinion is Dodgers over Red Sox in 6 games, Laugh if you will but don't be suprised when in Oct. your
watching the boys form L.A. taking the bean town boys out in 6 games. And if that dosen't happen disregard all that you read in this post.

From your lips to God's ears, q-ball. 😀 😀

Yankees are an All-Star Team, not a team. Thats why they wont go all the way. Cubs are a team. So are Marlins, they proved it last year. 😎
