80s Music You Hated Then And Still Hate Now

Wildtime said:
Am I the only one who thinks that 'Huey Lewis and the News' :xlime: was, is and always will be the most over-rated bland band ever to exist. They were even worst than Duran Duran or Culture Club. And don't even get me started on the 'Miami Vice' inspired pastel suits...ugh!

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83,I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consimante professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.
In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Has anyone mentioned these two stinkers from the 80s:

"Naughty, Naughty" -John Parr
"Senses Working Overtime" -XTC

AAAAAUUUUUGGGHHHH! That song! If I ran into John Parr today, I'd slap him.

And now, Drew, I'll have to punish you for reminding me of that song. What to do, what to do? Hmmm...I'll have to think of something.

I love 80s music, but I hate Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. I don't like most of Bon Jovi either.

Actually, I can't do anything. I'm innocent!

But YOU could do something; would you please give your lovely wife a hug for me? And then ask her to please give one to you, also from me. :wavingguy

*And now, this thread, temporarily hijacked, will return to its regularly scheduled topic, already in progress.*

Culture Club- "Do you really want to hurt me?". When I first saw that video on MTV (when it was civil) Boy George sang that line, and I jusy blurted out "Yes!!!!!"

Also, I hate the song from the Talking Heads, "Burning down the house"

Awwww....golly, gee, Lite........now ya got me feeling all warm and squooshy inside. Ok, hugs all around then. But there's no way you're innocent. :cuddle: :twohugs: 😉

Now then....

I REALLY hate "Let's Hear it for the Boy" and "Jump For my Love" by whoever did those songs. And speaking of which...."Jump" by Van Halen was the final nail in the coffin for that band.

Well, it's like this Isabeau.......when you have 5 classic Van Halen records...(well, actually "One" and "Two" are the real classics) then you follow that up with some top 40, keyboard-y, ready-made pop pablum like "Jump", that will tend to have your song wind up on an "80s music you hate" thread. While we're at it, I also hate "I'll Wait". But I'm quite partial to "Black and Blue" from Van Hagar.

As far as Culture Club...I always thought their follow up single should've been "Do You Really Want to Drop a Piano on Me?" Or maybe this was just wishful thinking on my part.

Wasn't the idea behind "Round and Round"...."I knew right from the beginning, that you would end up winning. I knew right from the start, you stuck an arrow thru my heart"???

Why the hell do I know all this useless information?? :illogical

Because you're spending too much time talking about 80's music and not enough time tickling sweet Ann. :sowrong:

Oh I take full advantage of any chance I get to tickle her. Problem is there's only 24 hours in a day. 😉

Hip hop isn't that great either. The 80's are way better than the stuff that is out now. I am not impressed with any of it. Talk about people with no originality.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!! :bouncybou

anything by Madonna
anything by Whacko Jaco Micheal Jackson except "Billie Jean"
anything by New Kids on the Block, though I'm ashamed to admit I was into them for a short time
anything by Debbie Gibson except "Lost In Your Eyes"
anything by Patti Labelle
anything by Dionne Warwicke
anything by Wilson Phillips

Yeah, I have to agree with this as well.

But then again there wasn't that much from the 80's that I enjoyed
