Before you jump on me know that I have a DVD player and a bunch of movies so im not exactly advocating kersosene lamps so to speak. However my area was hit with a blackout 2 days ago and when power came back on my VCR died. I spent 55 bucks on a new one as I like to record 2 shows so I dont have to sit through commercials (Lost, My Name is Earl 😀 ). Was this a wise move because that Ti-Vo thing isnt offered with Cablevision. I dont think you can buy it in the stores either so im stuck with clunky video tapes for now...or am I way off? 😕

since you already bought it..why ask? lol i dont think its a bad move. you do have video cassettes right? nahhhhh not a bad move to me...

Well I kept the receipt just in case of a breakthrough in technology! 😉

T-Vo is sold in stores and is not dependant on your cable system. Some cable systems do offer their own version, though. That having been said, however, I'd still have bought a new VCR. It gives you a permanent copy of whatever you tape rather than a temporary one. It allows you to view things you already have on tape. If you should ever decide to upgrade, you can get a DVD recorder. They're even making them now where you can transfer stuff from tape to DVD. Word has it that the technology will be perfected and prices lowered in another year or so.

To me, T-Vo is just a waste. You not only spend considerably more for the hardware. You also have to pay for service and subscription in order to do more than your old VCR did. Taking two minutes to do the work yourself is worth it for the money you save. Drew's brother and sisters all got themselves T-Vo. They're now even more enslaved by the crap on TV these days....and spending a ton of money for that priveledge.

Keep the VCR if you spent that little on it. Then, grab yourself a nice new DVD recorder around this time next year. When you move the VCR, you can always connect it to your computer and start pulling clips from stuff. 😉

I got a dvd/vcr combo for Christmas, and it's GREAT! I have a huge movie collection, along with home videos and such, that I'm slowly burning onto dvds. I got mine for about $170.

i have both a video player and dvd with surround sound system that david installed.. i have so many tapes that i need my video player.. and i cant figure out how to work the dvd... dont laugh

Thank you Ann your post seems the definitive one on the subject of this technology. 🙂
