In response to several threads that have been appearing, I figured I'd start a philosophical discussion:

Is tickling "dirty?"

Is sex "dirty?"

Are we merely reacting to hundreds of years of American puritanical values, that says "sex is dirty," ....(go do violence instead! Having sex with a hooker is more looked down upon than beating your wife and kids. There was a scarlett A, not a scarlett B, or anything else for spousal abuse.)

Is sex dirty...when it's someone ELSE?

ie: If I enjoy the newest pantyhose tickling video, or ask a girl to make a tickling video, or talk to a stranger about tickling, etc.,.... it's perfectly harmless, sweet and holy, because I am ME! If YOU do the exact same things...UGHHHHH!!!! You dirty, perverted FREAK! Because ...YOU'RE not ME!

(Like those guys who go to the strip clubs, and want to "save" whatever stripper....from these DISGUSTING SLOBS!! who just want to ogle them and have sex with them! I, I will save you from this awful place....so you can have sex just with ME!)
 
IMO, it's the attitude, not the act. If you look at it as dirty, then it will be for you. If you look at it as a perfectly normal part of human existence, then it can be fun, fullfilling and any variety of other things.
 
I don't think it's dirty. I certainly don't think sex is dirty. But I think S&M, tickling and much less so a combination of the two isn't at all attractive to most people, and I can totally understand anyone who finds it a turn-off, and is completely repelled by it. I don't feel sexy when I'm feindishly tickling a girl's feet, and I really don't expect them to find it attractive either - attacking an extremety like some ghoulish little pest: It really is more fiendish than sexy.

I do agree with Ann, in that it is what you make of it. I myself feel totally mixed up about it.

That's cool, I just don't feel it. Can you eplain? I think if I could come to terms with that I'd feel a lot better.
 
How do you "make it dirty?"

Is it dirtier when someone ELSE is doing what YOU would be doing?
(As explained in my first post, I won't rehash....)

I wonder because I see much condemning of guys (maybe girls, I haven't read every post) who tell a girl they want tickling, mention tickling or sex outside here, etc. etc.
When does it become "creepy," again, when someone else does it?

I'm just in a philosphical mood.....but it's also a bit confusing to have folks talk about tickling in whatever intense deail they can here, but when they barey mention it to someone they're interested in, people jump all over them and either insinuate or call them a pervert and what not...... Doesn't this confuse you?

How do those condemning folks make their distinctions on what's dirty and perverted and such, and how do they not-so condemning folks make THEIR distinctions?

Okay:

Is the "crazy" man on the bus who talks to everyone REALLY so crazy? Is it not us "normal" people who sit in silence, who are TRULY crazy? Answer: No he is crazy.

my point is, it's just a word but words are handy. "Creepy" or "weirdo" is, of course, impossible to define precisely. It describes a certain behaviour, and although it's relative, it's personal, it's a point of view, generally we know what that description is. We could go really deep into sociology...

I'm afraid this has conversation has little potential for any philosophizing until somebody puts forth a definition of what "dirty" is actually referring to in this context, since it's clear that OP is using it in its common, but metaphorical, sense.

Dirty as in somehow conflicting with "the good?" Dirty as in it distracts you from noble pursuits? Dirty in that its a health risk?

What are you actually asking here?
 
As someone who has, in fact, been rather vocal about calling people creepers with regards to this sort of thing, I think that it's basically a matter of context and boundaries.

For example;

Telling a friend you think she's attractive and would love to worship her feet: appropriate, if you're close enough.

Tell the same thing to a stranger on the bus: creepy.

Basically, if what you're saying or doing has the potential to make someone uncomfortable, it's probably best not said or done - and unfortunately, I think in a lot of cases it's the kind of thing that if you even have to ask, then you'll probably never understand. It requires two people to be on the same heading of the moral compass, really; so that if, say, one person doesn't see anything morally wrong with lying to people, and someone else does, then the person who does think it's wrong will condemn the person who doesn't, and the person who doesn't won't understand why.

There is generally a time and a place for everything - the people who are condemned or considered creepy are usually attempting to engage themselves in their favorite activity in either the wrong time and/or place or with the wrong person - and in most cases, usually at the expense of someone who didn't consent to the behavior. Erring on the side of caution is only the polite thing to do, really... assuming, of course, you're not the kind of person who takes pride in being a blunt asshole.
 
Yes it is dirty, all of it. Personally I blame the internet for there being so goddamn much of it. Nobody ever tickled each other or had sex before the internet! :cheesy:

Dirty is what *you* decide dirty is. It's completely subjective.

Not to mention, as we've already seen in this thread, dirty can be bad, good, or anything in-between. It is what you make it.
