Has anyone else heard about this? The NFL plans to eliminate one preseason game,(Thank God) and add a game to the regular season. Two things here, why not do away with two preseason games and make the regular season 18 games?

My big objection to this plan is this 17th game would be played overseas.Going to Europe is bad enough, but they are talking about games in Japan or even China for gods sake. The two teams involved would have their bye week following the game but i still think its going to screw with the regular season.Does anyone in China give a rats ass about the NFL,or even know what it is?Seems like a boneheaded idea to me.

While I know little about football, having an odd number of games in the regular season is grossly unfair to the teams that wind up with 8 home games and 9 away games.

How would this extra game benefit teams that are having miserable seasons

Its like talk of NCAA gettin rid of bowl games and doing tourneys. Football is so physically tasking, can they even handle playing more games

As long as they shorten the preseason, which is a joke anyway i dont see that as a problem. Its the travel issue that bothers me.Even with a bye week, its going to screw up the regular season.

Each team would still play 8 home games and 8 away games. Each team would also play one international game, which would be the 17th. I think it would be cool to have teams playing in other countries, but I doubt it will happen anytime soon. Maybe by 2012 we'll see this happen. I think they'll still have a lot of things to look at.

Could happen as soon as the 2009 or 2010 season from what i hear.I still think the whole idea stinks.Make the regular season 18 games, and play them here.Nobody in Japan or China or much anywhere else gives a damn about the NFL.Its all about trying to make more money, and they are already the raking it in.

That's why I think they're going to wait and see how the single international games go over. They should have test games in those countries to see if this is something that will work.

I think that's precisely it. They're desperate to make more, and they don't see it happening domestically. It's a shame, because I love this sport and think that it's a great league. Sometimes, their stances, which are about money, rub me the wrong way (like when they intercede on a local, stadium issue). The biggest threat to the NFL is their own greed.

I think the season and schedule are long and gruelling enough for the players as it stands. I hope the players union objects to the expansion of the season to protect the health of the players.

Its already been tried, with little intrest.Yes some preseason games have been played in Europe,Japan etc but the novelty wears off very quickly. These people are soccer fans, and thats not going to change.Football requires to much equipment compared to soccer, baseball etc.Japanese are intrested in baseball and have been for many years. They would rather watch a Sumo wrestling event, and thats fine.

From what i hear NFL Europe is having a tough time. They have even changedthe name to NFL Europa.like that going to help.

You guys are missing the point. The MLB and NBA are global. And a lot of countries are into basketball and baseball, and football is now trying to get the world involved in it. In order to be a successful enterprise, globalization is the way to achieve it. Besides, to get rid of exhibition games is something you wanted anyway, and a lot of people wish the season could be longer, so therefore it satisfies two cravings.

Nowadays, things are all about being global. NFL is trying to play catch-up to that

my 2 cents

The MLB and NBA are global.

I dont see them running all over the world playing games though. And i think the logistics and security issues are going to be a nightmare.

I was thinking the same thing about security. Playing overseas gives terrorists another target. It's easier for them to do things outside of the US. They'd have the time and place, and it will be a real concern.
