This is from a 1970s DC comic called “Plop (The Magazine of Weird Humor!)

It was kind of like kiddie version of Tales From The Crypt. Odd, somewhat scary, illustrations, and stories told by a witch and two devils, ultimately for comedic effect.

Mad Magazine’s Sergio Arragones did some of the illustrations for the comic. Specifically, he’d do a page of several tiny little morbid drawing of creepiness or suffering - as a background - and larger single panel comics would be depicted on these backgrounds.

Within these larger panels I found this little bit s a kid. It made a huge impression on me - I think this was the first time I’d seen a human depicted, in bondage, being put through a true torture involving tickling. Just look at the poor guy! The fact that he was hysterical and couldn’t put his arms down was scary, and kind of engaging.

Cool. Kinda reminds me how when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s, I read both MAD Magazine and Cracked (which is now only a website, I think. Still entertaining, though)

One or both of them usually had some tickling almost every issue, especially in the "If Spies Took Over the__" (instead of a blank, there'd be the name of a place, or event, or something. For example: "If Spies Took Over the Amusement Park" ...that was one I remember..people going downhill on a rollercoaster were being tickled on their armpits)

I don't remember if that section was in MAD or Cracked, though.

a truly excellent find. i always appreciate these things being found...especially of the vintage variety🙂

That's funny...

Way back I thought but did not mention: I was infuenced by various artists of Mad magazine. A long time ago, 60 minutes or 20/20, did a piece on Arragones
touting him as the fasted comic artist. I think I have a somewhat rep for fast and slightly sloppy style around here. Not trying to show off, but he was an influence on some level. B.t.w. Hello to all you peeps! Haven't had the urge to sketch - if it comes back, you guys will know.

Best to all, Watching
