A couple of months before you were born, I had graduated from Navy bootcamp and completed my apprenticeship training... on March 9th, 1982, I was beginning my tour of duty with VA-94 in NAS Lemoore... in other words, I was in HELL!!!!

Oh, Happy Birthday, Jugner!

On March 9, 1982, we were tied up to Pier 21 at the D&S Piers, Norfolk Naval Base. After a year of repairs, the destroyer I was stationed on started doing little outings in the Virginia capes operations area. Right around this time, we went out there, and wound up smack in the middle of a tremendous nor'easter, which made for one of the more spectacular blizzards to hit the east coast in decades. We were pitching enough to make just about anyone seasick, and rolling 35-40 degrees. No sleep for DAYS.

My CO was constantly seasick, it was something he never got over. He'd sit there in his chair on the starboard side of the bridge, his hair a tassled mess, his face green. One time, the roving security came up to him and reported, "ship secure, sir." The Captain looked at him furtively, then turned around, and threw up in a green bag right next to him. Poor guy 😛

Man, where did the time go?

Happy Birthday sweetie! I think you're a fellow Michigander if I recall... On that date I was a toddling three year old... of course i'm not recalling much of the date. lol... I hope you enjoyed it today!
