In December, one of our local radio stations offered three DJs on ebay for a private party, the auction yield going to support our AIDS care organization.
The auction brought € 4500 (over $ 5000), but that's not the clue: The highest bid came from a German emigrant on Grand Cayman, and they threw a big party there in January. A local travel agency and British Airways sponsored the flights, and a Brewery provided Bavarian beer for free.
The PR effect here in Germany was huge, but nothing compared to the echo on Grand Cayman! Their tourism industry is booming now, while the island was practically unknown to German tourists before! 😀
That's one of the results of internet: Although it's just a local radio station, you can hear their program worldwide on their homepage. They have a real cool music mixture, not just the recent hits, but also music from Italy, Spain, France, and of course Germany. Here's the link, if you're interested: www.charivari.de (to hear the music, click on the "live" button in the top-left corner). 😎
