It was announced in the Atlanta Journal Constitution this afternoon that 305 game winner and future Hall of Famer Tom Glavine has agreed to return to the Atlanta Braves as a broadcaster, and special assistant, to team president John Scherholtz. The formal announcement ends speculation that has gone on for several months. Many baseball fans remember Glavine's unceremonious release from the Braves last June, following his failed attempt at rehab. Apparently, the issues that existed between Glavine and Braves management have been resolved, and allow him to now take this new job.
Welcome home, Tom. Now, the countdown to the Hall of Fame begins. He will likely enter the Hall with Braves great Greg Maddux in 2014. That will be a very exciting day for Braves fans.
With this move, and Bobby Cox retiring at the end of this season, one has to wonder if maybe Glavine will be the Braves next manager. Even if that doesn't happen, it's great to have Tom back with the Braves.
