Today (April 15, 2017) is the 70[sup]th[/sup] anniversary of Jackie Robinson's debut in Major League Baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

There will be a celebration at Dodger Stadium with the unveiling of a statue of Mr. Robinson. Jackie's widow, Rachel, and children, Sharon and David, will attend the ceremony. Hall of Famer Frank Robinson will also be there, along with Dodgers icons Tommy Lasorda, Sandy Koufax, Vin Scully and Jaime Jarrin.

A historical note:
Jack Roosevelt Robinson was not actually the first African American to play Major League Baseball. He was the first acknowledged[sup]*[/sup] African American to play in the twentieth century, breaking over sixty years of segregation in MLB.

The actual first acknowledged[sup]*[/sup] African American to play Major League Baseball was a man named Moses Fleetwood Walker in 1884.

[sup]*[/sup]It will never be known who was the first in either the nineteenth century or the twentieth century since there were some African Americans with light enough skin to pass as white who did so in order to have a baseball career.
