I was thinking about it & realized that 2002 was a bad year for alternative music, both in what's current and what has gone before.

Dee Dee Ramone died, as did the lead singer of Big Country.

Dave Willimas of Drowning pool died. Natural causes at 30!

Lane Staley of Alice In Chains.

From one of my fave 80's groups & musically alternative for their time, Jam Master Jay......

Then there was Joe. Joe Strummer. Of The 101er's, The Mescaleros and The Clash. Especially The Clash. "The only band that mattered".

I'm sure I left a few out. I guess it would be better if this list was even shorter.....

In my opinion...

Layne Staley's death was the biggest loss of the year...

Hey Krokus, that's a great sig pic ya got there; from Magical Drop 3 rite? Yeah, she's my fav character!😀

Addictions are nasty, nasty things, and cause so much trouble. The ones who get out alive are amazingly lucky. Alice In Chains kept kept implying that they would be making a cameback... someday.

How could I forget Eintwhistle? For their time The Who were ceratinly a different breed.

Yeah, a lot of great alternative (broadly speaking) artists died last year. They will be missed. 🙁

Yes - the biggest loss in quite a while.. Layne was actually a friend of mine, and it still hurts like hell, although unfortunately, it wasn't a surprise.

Wow, Pheobe I'm really sorry to hear that. I've seen people get terribly messed with drugs, but have thankfully had no one near me die from that scene. It's such a terrible feeling knowing what the cumulative outcome may well be, but still having little power over the siuation. Those people who call the police on their friends or family members using are, I think, more often than not, have come up with as good a solution as any. What can any one person really do?

Very sorry Phoebe. He had a lot of friends and a lot of fans....
