You can google weird state laws and get all kinds of strange laws out there, but pertaining to tickling there are two interesting laws in different states.

In Virginia, it is still illegal for men to tickle women.

In Portland, Maine it is illegal for a man to tickle a women under her chin with a feather duster.

Wonder what the punishment is... 😛

I'm curious as to how it first got started, especially in Virginia.

Instead of some other crime, there was a tickle bandit who went around and tickled women. When they got caught, that's when the law went into effect?

So, it's illegal for a man to tickle a woman, but not the other way around? Or even a woman tickling another woman. Sweet! :happyfloa

Good grief! I could be arrested for tickling a girl. What next?

I'm afraid to think of the laws I may have broken in this case! LOL! 😉

This is what happens when legislative bodies meet too long. They figure they have to do something to justify staying in session, so we get stuff like this.

Or not. 🙂

I'm imagining a TV series based on the enforcement aspect of this law:
LAW AND ORDER: TICKLE CRIMES UNIT
"In the Virginia criminal court system, there are two parties: Men who tickle women, and the people who bring them to justice. This is their story..."

Great....another Law & Order: Rape Show. I can see the tagline for the show now, "All men are evil and will tickle rape you." :3poke:

I laugh at the law in Virginia about it being illegal for a man to tickle a woman. Can one tell me, that, if, for example, an 18 year old bf, and his 18 year old gf, were walking through a mall, and the bf gave his gf a tickle on the sides, that a cop could arrest him for it? Or, if at an apartment complex, a cop saw a man give his wife a tickle on her soles, at, say, the complex pool, the cop could haul him in for that? It wouldn't seem that law could hold up in court.

If the cops went around throwing every man in jail, who tickled his gf, female domestic partner, fiance, or wife, a lot of men would be sitting in jail. They should just abolish this rule. It's stupid, and can never be enforced.

You can't actually get arrested from them. They are just outdated laws that have been overlooked and neglected to be removed because other laws created since then make them null and void anyways.

I live in massachusetts and in one of the nearby towns there is a law that was never removed that makes it technically legal to Shoot dead a Rhode Island man in the center of town at midnight. Obviously that law is null and void now because it is considered manslaughter, and the law was probably made in like the 1700's and forgotten or ignored becuause it is illegal to kill anyone now so that law carries no value anymore.

Makes me wonder what the 1700's Virginia tickling community must have been like before it was outlawed.

Makes me wonder how it became a law in the first place. Some creep must've been going around town tickling women at will or something and the women went and complained to the town council or something.

I think more likely some Puritans or like minded group happened upon a couple at a picnic that were giggling more than their god would allow. It didn't help the situation that the woman had her private parts; her feet, exposed. No doubt she had the letter "T" burnt into her forehead. The man with the feather was promptly hung after wards.

The Puritans were in New England. Despite the south being more backwards now, back in the 1600's and early 1700's the south, which was basically Virginia and a couple other states at the time, consisted of the more relaxed and less strict type of people. Tickling in New England back then would've led a man to be burned at the stake...lol

It actually would hold up in court as long as the law is still on the books. Another poster said that there are probably other laws making this law null and void. But the only type of law that could do that would be one saying that it is NOT illegal for a man to tickle a woman. And rather than pass a law like that, the General Assembly would have just repealed this one. So since it's still on the books, it is still valid and yes the police could technically arrest you in Virginia for tickling a woman if you're a man.

Why aren't the jails filled with ticklers? Because people aren't idiots. This is one of many, many, many laws on the books throughout the country that no one enforces out of pure common sense. And if some cop did arrest a guy for tickling a girl at the mall, or whatever, the state would almost certainly decline to press charges and drop the case. Remember, the prosecutor is the one who gets to decide whether or not to move forward with the charges or drop them.

The whole thing would make a good short story though. Maybe an overzealous prosecutor who starts cracking down on tickling in the community. LOL.

This story could become the Citizen Kane of tickle porn. "Based on a true story..."

Kind of reminds me about how I think it is still illegal to have a pair of fence wire cutters in your saddlebags in Texas. Ya'll have been warned!
