i didnt write this, i just thought it was beautiful and wanted to share it with my TT family...the poem is based on the character The Boss from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
A TRUE PATRIOT
She must follow her orders
given by the man
do what's best for the country
do what's best for her land
She was sent off to lands
foreign places unknown
fool the chain of command
become one of their own
Earn their full trust
willing to do anything to prove
then when they least expect it
that's when she'll make her move
All that ever mattered
was the mission and the mission alone
recover the legacy
then bring it safely back home
The most top secret of plans
no one was to have known
but things nearly fell apart
when her cover was almost blown
By her long time companion
her beloved protege
he believe she defected
he believed she betrayed
It hurt her to lie
and it hurt her to deceive
but those were her orders-
make everyone believe
And so she turned her back
on everything she believed
with no one looking
she hid crossed fingers under her sleeve
Living this double life
lies impossible to keep track
staring in the mirror
unknown eyes staring back
She had to push all her thoughts
out of her weary mind
of what was right and what was wrong
solely to help mankind
But something unexpected
happened one day
truely a misunderstanding
and the U.S.A was to blame
And so the word was out
a legendary warrior was a traitor
she turned her back on her country
and teamed up with a dictator
Never so alone
belonging neither here nor there
a new plan was devised
a plan beyond compare
Continue with the mission
bring the treasure back home
the ultimate test of dedication
she'll be killed by one of her own
It was called collateral damage
it would clear the countrys name
a war would be prevented
but for her, eternal shame
And so their destinies were decided
the student vs. the teacher
they must carry out the mission
Operation Snake Eater
But he was never to know the details
of his governments intent
or else he'd neglect the mission
he might circumvent
Because they had a connection
they shared the same mind
a love that went deeper
they were two of a kind
They had an unforgettable battle
both equal in skill
mission nearly accomplished
all that was left was the kill
She had one more lesson to teach
to her protege, her friend
she told him not to hesitate
he must be loyal to the end
That's what a true soldier is
there are no questions asked
all that matters is the mission
and completing the task
And so he pulls the trigger
his heart slowly breaks
there's only enough room
for one Boss and one Snake
