this is a pretty stupid question but what makes somebody laugh when they get tickled. I could never understand and how come some people just aren't ticklish?
Thanks

Its on the net, somewhere, why we laugh

A Dr. Harris (Female) did some scientific studies with male and female (pant, heavy breathing) college students. It was strictly scientific in nature. She has written may papers on tickling and its relationship to pain, why one laughs, etc. The medical community is seriously looking into tickling because there is a current theory that tickling and pain are very closely related. If they can determine why one person is ticklish and another isn't, then they can figure a better way to control or eliminate pain. I don't remember her full name but her work has been published in Scientic American and other science journals. Maybe some other member has more information.

There is a bunch of information about tickling studies that you can look up on <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=tickling+study">Google</a>. <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=tickling+study">Click here</a> to check it out!

just think...what if people cried when you tickled them instead of laughed....i doubt the fetish would be as strong. although i guess some people do end up crying. i never like to go that far. this thought just popped in my head.

Moreover, I ask the question......Is LAUGHTER the "natural" reaction to being tickled?
I say no. I think that everyone has a different reaction. For some it is simply shock to the body, causing screams, moans, or simply loss of air.

I think....

that you are referring to Dr. Christine Harris, over at UCLA. At least that's the name and college coming to mind - both could be wrong. She divided tickling into two distinct groups with fancy sounding names I can't remember - one for "light" tickling and the other for "heavy" tickling. They are clearly related but seem to cause different responses in most people (according to her theory, which I've read before but can't recall overly clearly). Best case scenario, of course, is that both DO produce a reaction. 🙂
