Well, most of you who Iam friendly with, and who may have read my post last month about my weight, health, and blood pressure, were aware that I was diagnosed with high BP on March 17th, and was ordered to lose weight by my Doctor. Today was my follow up visit, and in less than four weeks, the results were good, and he seemed pleased. Iam have lost 12 pounds, and am down to 185 pounds from 197. My BP is almost normal, at 126 over 86, down from 150 over 100. The doctor did have a trick up his sleeve though.
Last month, when he ordered me to lose weight, his initial order was for me to lose between 12 and 17 lbs, and to get down to between 180 and 185. Upon seeing me today, he threw me a curveball. He now told me he wants me to lose another 10 lbs, and to go on the South Beach diet, and wants me at 175 lbs. That is about the weight that I was six years ago when I moved down here. Luckily, he didnt take away my chinese food once a week or my frozen yougurt, so I guess I have to do what the doctor says. The irony is that if I go down to 175, some of the clothes I had to put away when I moved down here may fit me. He said I can have beef twice a week, which I've been doing.
Overall, we were both pleased with the outcome. Iam happy that I had the will power to drop 12 lbs in less than four weeks. I really have been following the diet strictly, and it hasnt been easy, but when he told me on March 17th how high my BP was, I knew I had to get it down. I have also been drinking nothing but diet soda, after having regular my whole life. It was a good start, but I know I have to do more.
So, I just wanted to post to give an update. Thanks to the forum members for their support on my health issues. Iam glad we're still up. I'm waiting with the rest of us to see when the move happens.
Cheers to all,
Mitch

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! :dogpile: :bouncybou

Wow! I wish I could lose 12 lbs in one month. You did well for yourself and wish you have good success in getting your health back.

Good luck with the diet Mitch. Keep your strength though, because we need to get you back in the PR forum. Your knowledge of politics has been missed.

This reminds me of something kind of funny. At our last family gathering, my sister said, "I lost 15 pounds this month!"

My brother replies, "Well turn around, I think I just found them." 😱

Thank you, kis and Bill, and LOL Drew!

Bill, thanks for the encouragement and kind words about my insight in the P and R. I may post there at some point, but for the most part, I have retired from there. Too many fights with good friends. I think I may stay low profile when it comes to that.

Such a good job Mitch! I used to be seventy five pounds heavier (ouch!) and I know the feeling of a job well done that you have right now. I'm so proud of you!

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement, kitten. They are greatly appreciated. You have every reason to be proud of yourself as well. Seventy five pounds is a tremendous weight loss. Congratulations! It feels so great to achieve goals with weight, doesnt it? I'm not all the way there yet, as I need to lose at least another 7 to 10 lbs. Iam happy with myself, though, and you should feel very proud of yourself, too. That's awesome!

Mitch

I DO feel proud of myself. I worked hard to get where I'm at. I know how good you probably feel right now. I just want to make sure that you get the applause that you deserve.

Mitch, congrats. 7-10 pounds should not be hard at all to shed. Watch your carbs you take in, eat a lot of good protein and do a bit of cardio 2-3 times a week and you will have no problem.

Mitch, studies have shown that debating in the P&R forum can burn quite a few calories too. Just think, you could have an extra helping of Chinese food and talk about what an idiot Bush is. :wow:

Kitten, thank you, sweetie. It is appreciated. Armpit, you are right about cardio. I need to join a gym. Iam continually watching my diet and had more turkey today.
Bill, LOL! The way things have gone for me in the P and R, it would raise my pressure. Remember, I have high BP too, and need to keep watch on it. I dont think getting into heated debates in the P and R is a good way to keep me calm, but I do appreciate your kind words of encouragement, and nice try on the P and R! :dogpile:

Nice job Mitch.I am with you I have a blood pressure problem :Grrr: Then, diabetes runs in my family and at the last visit found out have that too. Then,he weighed me stood there and shook his head,Kevin,Kevin,Kevin he kept saying,He say's you need to loose weight now. Now,mind you this was last month.Oh,yeah cardiac problems in the family,I'm screwed.Well, anyway,I thought well I guess losing weight would be better than dead, cause he said if I don't get things under control,I can take ten years off my life.I am going to be 48 in two weeks. So,I went on the diet it sucks but,I am seeing real results, the pic I have up looks nothing like me now.I have lost 23 pounds and am going to lose another 27 that will be 50 and put me at 182.So,Mitch wish you luck.I have found what works best for me is I eat twice a day.I eat,a good breakfast then, supper at 6 and nothing after, just water and an occasional apple. So,Mitch losing weight will suck, but I will tell you one thing,I went to the store bought new jeans bought 36,and when,I am done it will be 34.Now,hope I can live long enough to enjoy it lol.So.let's do it let's piss off those who say we can't.Again, good luck Mitch. :wavingguy :wavingguy

Thank you for the words of encouragement, Traveler. They are appreciated. I wish you the best of luck with your diet as well, and with bringing your health issues under control.

Mitch

Your talking about what i do for a living. If you ever need help ask away in a pm.

good job mitch, yeah i have put on some weight as well. Too much cookies and bagels.

Thanks, Aphxa. Ugh, Bagels. YUM! Used to be my weakness. I'm Jewish, as many people know, and my weakness used to be Lox or Smoked Salmon on a Bagel. That would be like the kiss of death for me now. A gadzillion grams of salt in the Lox, and heaven only knows how many carbs in the bagel. I figure I can eat that about once a year now.
If you want to lose weight fast, go low carb. Believe me, you will. The proof is in the pudding for me. 12 pounds in 3 weeks, plus probably more this week. Low carb is an extremely effective diet, even if it is painful.

Mitch

You know it can be less painfull or hard to do dont you?

Maybe so, but I was speaking from personal experience of my own diet, and describing the foods I miss most. Honestly, Iam surviving okay with my diet, and not thinking every day about the foods I miss. The food I miss most, which used to be a staple in my diet, and which I can now eat on only very rare occasions, is Fried Chicken. I used to have a weakness for that, along with Fried Fish, and French Fries. Beyond those foods, Iam really surviving okay, and Iam even used to drinking diet soda now.
