I frequently read IMDB.com, as I'm very into watching/seeing movies. From reading that site, it seems that Robert De Niro has, undoubtedly, the longest and most extensive body of work of any actor or actress in history.

Some may notice that many of the "top" actors (Of which Mr De Niro certainly is..) will work, on one or two major movies a year, in starring roles. Some might take.. a year off, in between movies.

As De Niro gets older.. it seems that his workload just increases. He has starring roles, secondary roles, roles as ensemble cast member, voice work in cartoons, etc.

Currently, Mr De Niro has a few roles in quote "Pre Production", after having finished about a half dozen roles of movies that haven't even come out yet. If one looks at his "Projects In Development" area on IMDB, he is supposedly involved with an amazing seventeen movies in development.

He is also unique among the Hollywood top stars/legends, in that he takes many roles where he isn't "The Star" of the movie. Many of the other top actors and actresses. (I'm throwing out names off the top of my head here of actors who are working a lot now). Affleck, Theron, etc, seem to take on starring roles.. or aren't in the movie.

Mr De Niro will be 70 in a few weeks, and considering his amazing career, here's hoping he is healthy and working for many years. I will admit that I haven't seen very many of his earlier roles, except for "Taxi Driver" on cable one night a few years ago. The roles that I have seen of his over the past.. 20 years.. are amazing in number, character, and diversity. (I love The "Meet The Parents" series. as well as the "Analyze" movies. ) I also thought that "A Bronx Tale". (His directoral debut) was a very good, human, movie.

Thoughts on Mr De Niro and his career?

Who doesn't love Robert DeNiro? My favorite movie of all time is Taxi Driver.

That said, there's a few other actors who have more works under their belt and have been working for longer.

Christopher Lee has been in like 276 titles including the Hobbit movies that are currently in post production. He's 91 and starred in his first role in 1946.

Betty White is also 91, been in 105 titles, and started working in 1945.

Mairead, I see your point. Christopher Lee is much older than De Niro. Who knows? If De Niro stays healthy, he might beat Lee with the way he works.

De Niro will beat Betty White once his movies in post production and such come out.

I think my fav De Niro movie is probably Meet The Parents. He was amazing in that, even though it was a "comedy"

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought it said "most extensive body work". I was thinking Pamela Anderson (generous to call her an 'actor' but she's got more artificial parts than Jamie Sommers).

LOL! That's funny, Xod. You make me laugh, my friend.

Maybe the title was worded poorly, sorry. My point, which Mairead made, was to ask.. or discuss, the actor I think has worked the most of any actor in history. I thought it was De Niro, until Mairead mentioned Christopher Lee's huge line of acting work through his many decades long career.

I think there may have been some lesser-known actors whose sheer volume of output exceeds those of the stars. You know the ones; the character actors, the ones you recognize instantly when you see them but can't put a name to them without researching it. People like William Schallert, Burt Mustin, Jane Dulo, etc.

Zod, I missed Ronin, but heard it was very good.

Xod, I see your point.

Robert De niro is one of the greatest of ALL time, no doubting it, end of story, sign sealed delivered, already scribbled in Stone. But as far as out-put, and who is also himself quite an actor....id have to throw Gene Hackman's name in the mix aswell.

Ronin is on my to-watch list. Anytime he plays a cop, a mobster, or a bad guy, I'm watching, so keep the titles coming because I'm sure there's a ton of great ones I've missed.

I'd have to say Donald Sutherland, he seems to be in everything. Maybe not leading man, he's always a main character though, but certainly for body of work.

Couldn't have Meet the Parents in his top 5... For me it's hard to go past Cape Fear, Heat, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas . He was also fantastic in Sleepers.

Add Casino and Awakenings into this list as well.

I still have a crush on him starting from Goodfellas and then Cape Fear. I really don't have the words to describe how amazing he is. To describe acting and Robert Deniro is... well... he is the dictionary, the encyclopedia, the thesaurus, the Internet. He is the Master of acting.

De Niro is awesome. Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Casino, Awakenings, Cape Fear, Raging Bull and countless others are all great, but I'd also like to add a couple films with brilliant performances from the man that don't seem to get mentioned enough: This Boy's Life (which stars a young Leonardo DiCaprio!) and The King Of Comedy.

Also, I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Samuel L. Jackson in this thread yet. That guy has been in like, every movie ever. More than De Niro for sure.

I am glad to see someone mentioned The King of Comedy. He was also in Jackie Brown which was amazing

YES. I can't believe I forgot he was in Jackie Brown (which, incidentally, stars Samuel L. Jackson). One of my favorite movies ever.

My ninja! I also constantly read IMDB. The app is always open on my phone somewhere. I cant get enough of the trivia/synopsis. Ill usually read the synopsis of movies that intrigue me but are too fuckin horrific to try to watch. I'm a horror fan deep down to the bone, but some movies I hear about are so fuckin gory or fucked up that I don't wanna watch it, BUT I wanna know how the damn movie ends.("A Serbian Film" comes to mind as an example.) IMDB that shit, if you wanna watch it after you read the synopsis you've got brass balls. Slightly off topic though.

Ahhh Mr. Deniro. I love hearing about how weird he is in person. Howard Stern always talks about meeting him a few times and being super chatty with his wife, but Deniro is just cold and out in space mumbling shit. Taxi Driver is my favorite but I dig all the mob movies he is in. Goodfellas, Casino etc. He really nails that type of character. Also showed off his comedic chops in Meet the Parents(King of awkward moment movie.) The man is definitely a genius as an actor. A living legend.
