After my last employer (a travel agency) went broke in May 2001, I have been unemployed. During the last 18 months, I had a work-for-welfare job, but that ends in two weeks.
However, this work-for-welfare job gave me the opportunity to prove my skills. In my hometown's tourist office, I made myself almost indispensable, as I speak 4 foreign languages (plus some basic knowledge in a few more), and serving customers is a real pleasure for me. So my current boss started a campaign to keep me, despite a total employment stop for civil service jobs decided upon by the city council. Today, he informed me that he was successful.
Which means I've got a new job, at my age of 50 and with a limited state of health! Part time at first, but what the heck! The worst thing for me, a dedicated workoholic, was doing nothing. I think I will dance all night!!! 🙂
If any of you happen to come to my hometown Munich, you'll find me at the tourist info at the Town Hall. Drop by, and we'll have a drink together.
