Air France sued for Discrimination

42-year-old Adele Price, who is limbless and confined to a wheelchair, is suing Air France for discrimination. Price was not allowed to board an airplane and told by a gate agent that “a head, one bottom and a torso cannot possibly fly on its own.” Price was born without legs and has traveled by air several times. She was allowed to board a different airplane, but only if she had a companion with her.

Passengers who are unable to leave the plane on their own are not allowed aboard, unless traveling with an able-bodied companion. That's an international air traffic regulation, because those people can't help themselves in case of an emergency landing or an evacuation.

If this passenger had a travel companion with her, the gate agent was wrong to reject her boarding. If Mrs Price just had someone without a flight ticket with her to bring her aboard, it was the agent's duty to refuse. Anyway, the gate agent's explanation was highly unfriendly and grossly incompetent.
