Recently in Pakistan, Ayman al-Zawahri, bin Laden's right hand man, was supposedly cornered. Now, they say it wasn't him. Well, he had something to say anyway:

........................................
Al-Qaida's No. 2 Claims to Have Nukes

SYDNEY, Australia - Osama bin Laden's terror network claims to have bought ready-made nuclear weapons on the black market in central Asia, the biographer of al-Qaida's No. 2 leader was quoted as telling an Australian television station.

In an interview scheduled to be televised on Monday, Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir said Ayman al-Zawahri claimed that ``smart briefcase bombs'' were available on the black market. It was not clear when the interview between Mir and al-Zawahri took place.

U.S. intelligence agencies have long believed that al-Qaida attempted to acquire a nuclear device on the black market, but say there is no evidence it was successful.

In the interview with Australian Broadcasting Corp. television, parts of which were released Sunday, Mir recalled telling al-Zawahri it was difficult to believe that al-Qaida had nuclear weapons when the terror network didn't have the equipment to maintain or use them.

``Dr Ayman al-Zawahri laughed and he said `Mr. Mir, if you have $30 million, go to the black market in central Asia, contact any disgruntled Soviet scientist, and a lot of ... smart briefcase bombs are available,''' Mir said in the interview.

``They have contacted us, we sent our people to Moscow, to Tashkent, to other central Asian states and they negotiated, and we purchased some suitcase bombs,'' Mir quoted al-Zawahri as saying.

Al-Qaida has never hidden its interest in acquiring nuclear weapons.

The U.S. federal indictment of bin Laden charges that as far back as 1992 he ``and others known and unknown, made efforts to obtain the components of nuclear weapons.''

Bin Laden, in a November 2001 interview with a Pakistani journalist, boasted having hidden such components ``as a deterrent.'' And in 1998, a Russian nuclear weapons design expert was investigated for allegedly working with bin Laden's Taliban allies.

It was revealed last month that Pakistan's top nuclear scientist had sold sensitive equipment and nuclear technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea, fueling fears the information could have also fallen into the hands of terrorists.

Earlier, Mir told Australian media that al-Zawahri also claimed to have visited Australia to recruit militants and collect funds.

``In those days, in early 1996, he was on a mission to organize his network all over the world,'' Mir was quoted as saying. ``He told me he stopped for a while in Darwin (in northern Australia), he was ... looking for help and collecting funds.''

Australia's Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said the government could not rule out the possibility that al-Zawahri visited Australia in the 1990s under a different name.

``Under his own name or any known alias he hasn't traveled to Australia,'' Ruddock told reporters Saturday. ``That doesn't mean to say that he may not have come under some other false documentation, or some other alias that's not known to us.''

Mir describe al-Zawahri as ``the real brain behind Osama bin Laden.''

``He is the real strategist, Osama bin Laden is only a front man,'' Mir was quoted as saying during the interview. ``I think he is more dangerous than bin Laden.''

Al-Zawahri - an Egyptian surgeon - is believed to be hiding in the rugged region around the Pakistan-Afghan border where U.S. and Pakistani troops are conducting a major operation against Taliban and al-Qaida forces.

He is said to have played a leading role in orchestrating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

IMHO, this is by far the most interesting (uh...perhaps that should be in quotation) article that you've posted, mabus. Kudos.

So, if al-Quaida do have nuclear capabilities, what do we do?

Cheers.😀

What do we do?

Democrats: Stick heads up arses and cower.

Republicans: Invade a random country.

Me: Laugh my arse off and wait for oblivion.

Smells like public hysteria. *Sigh*

make sure palestines get a state of their own, alot of the al-quaeda prob is fixed with that

US ppl generally don't seem to know how the average arab is infuriated with Israel's politics towards the palestinians, as is Ben Laden

Bin Laden is only the spiritual leader, and probably the one responsible for financial support of Al-Qa'eda. I think that Zawahiri is just one of the leading brains, but by far not the only one. By now, Al-Qa'eda is more an ideology than a homogenous organization. Every disgruntled and fanaticized muslim claims to have connections to Al-Qa'eda by now, although their motives might be vastly different.

Hatred of Israel is certainly one of the points, but surely not the only one. It's Western lifestyle they're attacking, or in their words: the lack of Allah. But killing their leaders (as has happened with Sheikh Yassin) will not solve the problem, nor will military actions against Arab countries...

wonderful sadistic -

with diplomacy like that, lets get holland in line for the next give-away. one day they'll have gripes with the dutch - legalized prostitution and marijuana - definately an insult to the moslem world.

appeasement - just does not work!

Baron, as long as Israely tanks rumble through the palestian streets daily and there's still blood flowing there terrorism will not stop, the palestinian problem needs to be solved before any serious anti-terrorist actions will have effect.

Uh No They Don't..

Bin Laden is dead and has been since mid November 2001.

If we knew for a fact he were dead we would not still be searching for him. Elvis is dead, Osama is not.

Sorry M...It had to be said to put things in perspective......😉

i have to admit that your point is well taken. and in fact it compliments my perspective as well.

well done!

Fuck the Israeli government and fuck the Muslim extremists... Most Jews and Muslims aren't as stupid as the people in both of those groups, but sadly, it's the idiots that always end up getting the big weapons. I hate to say it, but now that Al-Qaida has nukes, maybe this terrorism problem will get solved, just not in the way that we want it to be... At this point, living in or visiting Israel is like playing Russian roulette.

Well, I'm still sceptical about Al-Qaeda havin nukes, but even if they do, why worry? You can't do shit about it so you'll just have to wait and see the end of a large US/UK city.

Osama is long dead, LONG LONG dead.

For pete's sake people, the man was nursed in an AMERICAN hospital..and this is documented.

Although it hasn't been shown too much on the media, if you search enough you can find it. American ships were found only a few days ago transporting WMD to Iraq, old 1942 bombs etc.

They were caught and were forced to stop, George Bush at this point is speechless because well, the bigwigs are scared as well, so creating some cover-up is useless.

I only wish I could show this site to my father, he has over 5000 documents revealing so much.

I won't go into detail now, if anyone wants to learn more, they can ask...or try something like infowars.com....

Edit: I also noticed people looking into our government knowing about 9-11...that attack was staged to strike fear into the nation...it was predicted by several people who have connections to the inside.

The same thing goes for Saddam, they never "caught" him, he was taken in months before, locked away somewhere, and wheeled out when they needed him.

It is documented that the Bush family has been around for many years in power, and the administration funded Hitler and the Soviet Union. People are beginning to wake up from the "everything is fine, everything is safe because we're protected" attitude. I pray that there is still hope for this country.
