Alice In Wonderland

Someone must've slept through Cheshire's thread about this a couple weeks back. 😉

Personally, I'm still not gonna bother seeing it. I'm a little tired of Depp being shoved down by throat.

well, i am looking forward to this cause i love all of tim burtons movies. and i know he will make this good.

I'm looking forward to it, because it seems like one of those projects Burton was born for.

I mean, Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock?

And Anne Hathaway is just.......ohhhhhhhmmmmmmmm:drool

Oh yeah, and that Depp guy seems like he'll be ok as the Hatter.

Christopher

I am so sick of Tim Burton making the same movie over and over again. Seriously, if he does something new that doesn't feature Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter, I'll see it.

But Alice in Wonderland is a favorite of mine and I'll undoubtedly be disappointed by this.

Well i for one can't get enough of Johnny Depp, shoved down my throat or otherwise....he's a fantastic actor...i just re watched "The Ninth Gate" last night..he's amazingly versatile..

Alice was always a favorite book of mine...i'll wait however until this comes to pay per view..

Johnny Depp is a good actor, but he seems to play almost the exact same part every time he's in a Tim Burton movie, even though they're supposed to be different characters. When he does something outside of that, like the John Dillinger movie, that's when I find him interesting and notice his skill as an actor.

See Depp in Don Juan DeMarco for a complete character change. I loved him in that movie. Still love him in the Burton flicks as well and will definitely see it....

I'll probably wait for DVD on this one. I don't really go to the movies anymore unless it's some big "event" film that I really want to see on the big screen.

It would be nice to see Burton use a different lead cast from time to time, but he's done a half-way decent job on the stuff he's done with them, so this probably won't be too bad.

The problem with making a movie out of iconic literature is that you have to be very careful. These pieces are part of the collective consciousness of a culture and are often a fine line to walk in representation. It's why Peter Jackson took The Lord of the Rings so seriously. It would be a really easy thing to fuck up royally.

Actually, from what I've heard (get your grains of salt ready), it's not the books. It's a 19 year old Alice coming back to Wonderland some time after the events of the books. This way, he evades having to interpret the books.

At least that's IMDB's claim. The set up, not that he's doing it to evade...lol

Also, it's more an ensemble than a Depp movie. Alan Richtman is the Caterpillar (awesome), Michael Sheen is the Rabbit, Anne Hathaway is the White Queen, Stephen Fry is he Cheshire Cat, Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts, etc. It's just that Depp is the Biggest star in the movie, so he's the focal point. The Aussie girl playing Alice is actually the lead of the movie insomuch as an ensemble has a lead.

But Burton is with HBC. Lisa Marie was in all his movies while they were together too. It's his thing. Not that I disagree entirely with you, Annie. I'd like to see less of her too. I think Depp works with him so much just out of sheer fun. They're in a position where they can make movies together just cause they enjoy it (and they make a crap-ton of money). Sorta like Kurt Russel and John Carpenter in the 80's. But I would like to see Burton work with someone like Ice-T just because it's so friggin odd....lol. Truthfully, a thriller with Burton directing Viggo Mortensen seems like a cool idea....

I'll see it. Dunno if I'll wait for DVD or not, but I'm looking forward to it.

if for no other reason, I gotta see Richtman as the Caterpillar...lol Tho I don't think we'll get "Whoo are youu?" And that's too bad.

No,I didn't and this is why I am making this thread. He said that Tim Burton had nothing to do with this movie.

Really now! Must've missed that. My lack of interest in the film dictates that I only skim writings about it. 😛

UPDATE ON THE BLONDE OF THE FORUM
that's me even though I am not really blonde lol
Sorry,I got mixed up everyone. We started talking about Coraline in a Alice In Wonderland thread and if I read everything right the second time around it was Coraline that Tim Burton didn't have anything to do with.
Very sorry Bella.I did go back just to be sure and I got mixed up as usual.I skim through myself sometimes when I go to read for the second or third time because these threads get so long sometimes.Anyway sorry to Cheshire Cat as well.
I am still very excited about this 3D adventure.

Ps.I will try and read a little more carefully.Sorry again to everyone for my stupid mix up.I feel highly stupid so feel free to have fun with this one.It can't get more stupid then this lol.

Sorry, sweetheart I made a mistake.I read some things wrong. He got mad when I said that Tim Burton made some really awesome movies including Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline. So,when I went back to read it I thought he was talking about Alice In Wonderland again for some reason.
Above all else and bottom line is that I made a silly mistake but I am here to correct that even though I feel pretty silly lol.

Again all apologies to The Cheshire Cat I should have read a bit more carefully.

Also sorry to every one else I misled in that statement.I want to correct that.

Its ok, I almost did the same thing in this thread...lol

Ah well. In the end feeling utterly silly is quite in the spirit of Wonderland, and therefore totally acceptable in associated discussions.

y'know, i pretty much agree with several key points here, *throws on reading glasses and pulls out list* item a, if you will, i too am sick of having depp and carter force fed down my throat with a rusty spoon. however, item b, alice and wonderland has been a fave book of mine for quite some time, counterpoint to that, (item c for those keeping score) burton has hit or miss movies. he put a good spin on sleepy hollow after all but prior to that he went and got batman all bolluxed up. item D) given that johnny depp has to hoarde screen time as mandated by law apparently, the mad hatter is going to be a major character in this film (the mad hatter looking like gene wilder on smack i might add) which is irritating given that the hatter had MAYBE a page and a half in the book. lastly, item E) christopher lee as the jabberwock? since when does it speak? in fact, since when is it even brought up outside of the poem jabberwocky? which took place in through the looking glass and not the first bloody book! but aside from that, i do so love christopher lee (watch man with the golden gun and you will too) so it might yet be acceptable. even so, i can't decide if i wanna spend $7.50 to go see it yet.

I think the person who came up with Alice in Wonderland was batshit fucking insane. Then again, it could have been all the drugs the person was doing. LOL.
