Not that I care, as I believe producers/site hosts should be compensated. But I always wonder how it is legal to charge to see clips from _other_ companies like DreamWorks, 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, etc.?

Do these types of download sites get any consent to charge for this? I am not so sure that they (the producers) wouldn't care. I am not sure what the legal disclaimer says at the end of a given show/movie, but I would be willing to be it says something about "not distributing without the express written permission", blah blah blah. I also don't think we should get them for free. I am just curious about the whole distribution thing.

I always wonder the same thing about the people who resell movies on e-bay. Or those who are burning CD's and selling them...isn't that as bad as the free download the music industry was rallying against?

As to Extreme tickling...its the best $6 I spend every month...if just for the non/mainstream stuff he has on there too.

Not at all. Reselling a video or cd is perfectly 100% legal. COPYING one is not. Totally difefrent things. If you buy a video it's yours to do with what you please. You can keep it, sell it, throw it in the trash, whatever. Either way there is ONE copy out there that the distributor already has been paid for.
If you copy it there are now TWO copies out there. One that they got paid for and one that they did not. Whether you sell the copy for profit or give it away for free it's copyright infringment.

As for mainstream clips...yeah technically I think it's illegal to distribute them. However...Nobody is going to jail you for it. I dont think video producers are crying because 30 second clips of their movies are being distributed amongst us creepy dirty fetishists. 😛 I think they COULD raise a fuss...but it would be a lost cause.

I've posted plenty in my day robbieboy...some in fact are on sites like Extreme tickling and TickleTown. I don't really have any anymore but if you look through the Yahoo tickling groups you can find plenty of free mainstream clips. Besides, the ones I did are way to large to simply post anymore...I used to put them on my own yahoo group but haven't in quite some time.

While a 6$ fee isn't that much, I was wondering what that fee really covered.

If I recall well, Extreme Tk's admin isn't on business, so that money just cover his expenses.

If ppl got those clips elsewhere, he'd get lower fees, since he'd burn less bandwidth [EDIT: yeah, sure...].

I'm not sure he would mind, either, since those clips are amateur or copyrighted to other prods - so he couldn't make a profit out of them anyway.

About producers making a fuss, well, on TMF some of them actually argued even sharing short paid clips hurt their biz, so I wouldn't put my hand on it. 🙂

To the original poster: have you tried looking for those free clips on groups or p2p progs?

Especially since TIB threw a tantrum over Rocking's page and all Rocking did was share some of TIB's now defunct promo clips.....and that was free. I wonder how he feels about Extreme Tickling charging $6 to see the same clips?

Naw, really: I didn't get to see what the infringing clips were. Most ppl just posted for or against sharing per se.

But I'd like to know, just for the sake of it. I've read the whole threads, but they just quarrelled about the sanctity of copyright, the bandwidth costs and marketing strategy.

Nobody really mentioned the "stone of scandal".

And to make things worse, Rocking took it personally - and everbody else did the same, as if it were Rocking against TIB.

Could anybody shed some more light on it?

I must defend TIB here - there were no tantrums thrown, in fact he's shown much more restraint in the face of unjust criticism than you find pretty much anywhere else on the net. There was never an argument about promo clips, only paid-for ones that were being distributed for free.
