The following is a very interesting section from a link below, regarding a sect of Amazons who lured men and then proceeded to tickle them to death!

"About the movement of the Άλαζωνας14) into Scythia, Herodotus says nothing, but he speaks about the movement of Άμαζωνας, after some unsuccessful wars with the Hellenes. From the Amazons came the so-called Sarmatians or Σαυροματοι.15) and the land of the women became the land of the Amazons whom the Scythians call Οιιρπατα, (man-slayers), but whom history has recorded as the Hrobati or Horvati (Croatians),16) and not at all noticing the Rusalke who had a notorious custom of luring men and tickling them to death."

Speaking as a history major, this doesn't surprise me, as far as Herodotus' mistakes are concerned, Herodotus is a lousy historian, usually biased, very Greco-centric, and tends to go off on a tagent in his writings.

He lacks the qualities of a good historian, and in my opinion people wanting to study this era of history should read mroe from Plutarch and/or Xenophon.

Anyway in Greek Texts, Amazons tend to 'pop up' but most likely it's just because Greek Traders came into contact with a culture where they saw women ride horses and the likes.
But it's still funny to hear of such a quote in Herodotus's work.
lol. Tickletorture.
