America's oldest general store has closed.

This saddens me. When I was a child, in the 1960s, general stores were still an important part of life in many small, rural towns. This store opened its doors in 1788, 224 years ago, at the dawn of our independence. I'd like to think that some are still hanging on out there in the nooks and crannies of our country.

one of the reasons i don't shop at walmart. i'd also rather go to local liquor stores or small markets to get a bottle of water rather than going to a 7-eleven
