Greetings all. It's that time of year again to start thinking of the annual TMF Football Pool. Actually, I have been thinking about it for quite a while now. As most of you now know, I have Multiple Sclerosis and things have been a tad on the rough side of late. Honestly, I have been tormenting myself lately as to whether I should even hold the Pool this year. I don't want to start something I may have a tough time finishing.
However, after realizing that the Pool is a popular item on our Forum and also coming to the conclusion that I do need things like this to keep my mind occupied on positive things, I have decided to go ahead with plans for the Third Annual TMF Football Pool, but with some changes that will make running it easier on me...and hopefully make the game more interesting and playable for everyone. I wanted to run it by you guys first to see what you think.
Rather than have a weekly pool with every game being played, I was thinking of picking perhaps five good match-ups from each upcoming week. The Pool takes an enormous amount of time and energy to run and tabulate, and most of that time is spent checking off the 10-12 games each week that everyone picked the same anyway. You know, the obvious blow-out games and such. By sticking to five games per week (and hopefully picking good ones), this will not only make the Pool a much more streamlined endeavor to tackle, it will make the picks more important and also less intimidating for new players, or those who jump in late. In addition, this will help eliminate some of the problems with the Thursday or Saturday games that pop up (maybe just stick to Sunday games...I haven't worked all that out yet), and help get the results back quicker.
I have not completly decided on a scoring system yet, but I was leaning toward something like I had during last year's Playoff rounds, ie: a point system. Rather than only one winner per week, players will earn points for winning the game - not the whole week. Each game will probably require a point total pick, and there may be an extra point for a player who gets the most correct picks for the week. Again, I'm working out the bugs.
Let me know what you think about a streamlined Football Pool. I'm open to any ideas or feedback while I'm retooling this. My goal is to make the game fun and fair while allowing me to run it with less effort and with a little more leeway time-wise in the event of "bad days" that keep me from getting to it. In the unforseen circumstance of me being, for whatever reason, unable to deal with it at some point, Ray has graciously agreed to step in and help out if needed...so we should be able to keep it going this year. What a guy, eh?
I look forward to hearing from you, and thanks for your time.
Dave
