i wrote this a few hours ago, and i'm not sure if it's in the right section, but i didn't see a separate section for poems so i guess it is.
an ode to the star fish
in the presence of the ocean,
i often wonder about the lives of star fish;
do they ponder life's oddities like we do?
you have to be curious as to whether or not
a star fish has ever thought about the silence
of snow, or contemplated the way the world
smells after a rainstorm
or balked at its brilliant cousins, nestled
in their lofty haven in the stratosphere
it must envy them so, with their impractical
luster that blinds the most
cynical of hearts into submission
i like to think that in our loneliness,
we humans are not so alone;
that maybe, somewhere beneath
the ocean's shimmering surface,
there lies a star fish that
covets what it can never aspire to
luckily for us, though, we are not star fish
the brilliance and beauty we wish to acquire
is ours for the taking
and though most of us will never live to obtain
the perfection of the stars that laugh at their
ocean-bound relatives,
i'll be damned if it hurts to try.
