I've been on a downer as of late...nothing in particular is bad par se, but its the little things that seem to have been getting to me recently, until I was given a biography of Spike Milligan, and a dvd with the best of Tony Hancock, Dudley Moore and Peter Cook. Cracked me up and made me feel a little bit better. But I'm still feeling a bit low. Meh.

So, here I am at (checks clock by bed) 5:30 am, bored, lonely and...something ekse that's those two words but different. Fair people of the TMF, do me a favour and list some of your all-time favourate comedians, past and present, alive and deceased (Milligan's Tombstone epitaph: "I Told You I Was Ill...."), and give me a few quotes and one-liners from them that stick out in your mind
Be warned, however, because if I end up starting off on Eddie Izzard (personal favourate) this thread might get veeeeeery long indeed,lol...

Cheers 🙂

We stuffed ourselves silly at a Christmas-leftovers dinner this evening -- stemware, fine china, etc. We had a good laugh during dessert when somebody said "Mr Creosote, a wafer-thin mint?" (Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life). We really went over the edge when somebody actually brought out a box of Andies and then ran to hide in the kitchen. (In the movie, hugely obese Mr Creosote eats one mint too many and explodes all over the restaurant.) My son got so hysterical his tea came out his nose. I hope the vision of this cheers you up.

"Ah go on...it is only....waffa thin!"

I love that sketch, although the rest of that film was a bit of a dissapointment. Bring me Holy Grail any day...

Cheers 🙂

andrew "dice" clay

a couple lines; .."treat me like the pig that i am"
.." but dice, we only wanted to be held".. "well baby, you got the bonus plan!"
.." you're about 5 seconds from the most embarassing moment of your life".
dice is hysterical ,and extreemly under rated.

Just watched.........

....the final episode of "The Office" David Brent, one of the great comedy characters. Too bad our U.S. cousins have bought the format, got knows what they will do to it!! Lets hope Bill Cosby does not audition for the part.

My current fav along with the office is a well kept secret called "Monkey Dust" its dark, disturbing and sick. Just how i like my humour. Cant see it ever getting past the "presbytarian born again moral majority" U.S. censors. Its as English as alco pops, inner city gun crime and jammy dodgers.

Then of course theres "Pheonix Nights" and "Dead Ringers" and the brilliant "Bo! Selecta" (proper Bo ah tell thee!)

Bill Cosby..."Himself" or his "Noah" routine are hilarious.
"Himself" deals with everything from the dentist's office to drugs to parenting.
"Noah" is a modern day twist of the biblical story.

Others...Robin Williams and Dennis Miller are always good for verbose political commentaries. Depending on whether you like your comedy on the crazier side (Williams) or the philosophical (Miller).

Hope your blues don't linger 🙂

steve -

i love the Diceman!

"here's a kiss, split it between the two of you, ho!"

"i was standing on line at the bank...."

"little boy blew...."
