Well, I made a thread about Anime series, thought I might bring this up. 😛

Actually, I was down my local Waterstones this weekend having a look around and saw a section devoted to Anime/Manga and I started to have a look around.

I didn't spend much time in there because I had to finish shoping for my wife's b/day. 😛

Anyway, are there any anime/manga books you really enjoyed reading or would recommend to anyone. When I get a bit more free time, I might have a gander in Waterstones and see if I can find it. 😛

I'm not really all that into the printed Japanese comics, or the whole anime thing in general really, there's a lot of gratuitous stuff in the writing (be it pointless violence, poorly conveyed sentiment or sex for sex's sake), but a lad I used to know from Fukuoka sent me the first 4 books of One Piece which I enjoyed a bit. Largely because there was a clown.

As far as the films go I remember really enjoying Wings of Honnamise, although it's been YEARS since I watched it and can't really remember all that much about it. Spirited Away as well, I loved that film; one of those serendipity things, flicked the channel onto it one day expecting nothing and was totally enthralled, it's definitely a children's film but the script, story, characters and visuals are fantastic. There was another one as well, I think it was called Princess Mononoke or something, that was quite good. It had a giant pig covered in leeches and some fruity deer thing which turns into a vast shadow of destruction when decapitated and a sliding wolf head that bites a woman's arm off. Mad, but good.

I don't think I would recommend any books. The problem is that western acceptance of anime has been just recent and in small numbers. I myself ain't accustom to pictures so criminal they should be listed as health hazards so sorry I can't help you in your search.
