I have seen the Japanese and English versions of each of these. The below descriptions and opinions are of the english dubbed versions of the anime and nothing else.
Ranma 1/2 - A little old and a little too many episodes for my taste, but nothing particular in the storyline is drawn out too much. Martial arts comedy with a twist. Father and son are cursed. They turn into a panda and girl (respectively) when splashed with cold water, and back into humans when splashed with warm water. Very funny.
Rurouni Kenshin - About a samurai who wants to turn his life around. Takes place during the time of Japan when the feudal era was ending. Kenshin has a hard time giving up his previous life. So many hold a grudge because of his past actions. Kenshin who seems so kind hearted and loving in the series, was once known as the "manslayer".
Excel Saga - If you are insane, watch this. If you are not insane and would like to be, watch this.
Trigun - Not your normal "I fight with guns" series. starts out with an "old west" feel, but later you notice that it takes place in the future. The main character is the most wanted man in the world and doesn't even know why. The price on his head is $$60000000000 (sixty billion double dollars). I love this anime.
Hellsing - vampires in modern day. Really really cool and not very long. Gives some interesting dialog and interpersonal relations with human and vampire.
Great Teacher Onizuka - what happens when a former gang leader becomes a high school teacher. This show changed my life.......no seriously.
Golden Boy - Man, I just can't describe this....but ima try 🙂. Just a handfull of episodes long. Its about a genious guy who goes through life with the sole intention of learning. A "student of life" if you will. He is extremely perverted yet very ethical all at the same time. This contradiction causes many problems and awkward situations for him. Ok, that didn't work out too well. Just watch it, it is probably the funniest thing I have ever seen in my whole life. This also changed my life.
Those Who Hunt Elves - About a group of people (a martial artist, an actress, and a cute school girl who owns a millitary tank) are summoned to the world of elves. Something goes wrong with the spell to send them back and symbols get spread all over the land onto the bodies of elves. The group has to uncover these symbols to get back home. This usually involves stripping down female elves to find the symbols. Very funny.....I liked it.
