Tonight I made my annual visit to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia to see a game between my Atlanta Braves, and the Philadelphia Phillies. Seeing the game was fun, but, unfortunately, the final score was not what I had hoped for, as the Phillies routed the Braves 5-0. Braves starter Chuck James was rocked for three Philles homers, including a tremendous blast by first baseman Ryan Howard, that struck the back of the wall in Center Field, more than 400 feet away. On the other side, Phillies starter Cole Hamels pitched one of the best games I've ever seen while at a ballgame. He shut out the Braves on five hits, completely dominated the lineup, and was never really in trouble. I gave him an ovation at the end, for his excellent performance. The game was played in a very crisp, 2 hours and 15 minutes. I was out of the stadium at 930, and home by 11.
So, while the outcome was not what I had hoped for, the weather held out, and the game was well played, which is all a fan can hope for, really.
