No idea, sorry. I don't think there are many anymore. But posting the link to Geocities and letting people cut and paste is a popular choice -- it works fine.

Maybe someone else knows of a better host... ?

The best place for posting images that allows remote linking is http://www.villagephotos.com

It's free, relatively fast on transfers, and has a decent amount of bandwidth allotted for each profile.
