Anybody here a hockey fan? Not just the NHL but of any minor or major-junior league or college teams? I like football, soccer and basketball (at times) but hockey is the only sport that I can say I really love and follow all the time. Who here is into hockey and what's your favorite team?

I watch it when i can but i have to say i'm an Oilers fan all the way 😀

shame about the Stanley Cup last year....I was really pushing for Edmonton to win. It was a great team and its a shame how Pronger just abandoned them.

Well since I'm from Canada I have to like hockey I need to live up to that sterio type. I live close to Toronto so I hope the Leafs do well and actually make it to the play offs this year.

Hockeytown checking in, home of the best team in all of hockey the last 15 years here.

I like that they are making rule changes, I love the rule about taking the red line out which makes the game more wide open, however I hate the fact that they made physical play pretty much non-existent. Hockey in the 80's was the most exciting time period i've seen.

You have won as many Stanley Cups as the Avalanche and the New Jersey Devils in that same spam of time ( three ). In fact, if I recall, you lost the Stanley Cup Finals in a four game sweep to the New Jersey Devils. The last game was played on June 24th,1995 as the Devils finished the Wings off in a 5-2 final. The first of three Cups by Brodeur. So you actually haven't been the best, you have been one of the best. But keep plugging away, the Devils would like to see you on the ice in the Finals again. 🙂

I'm a big Montreal Canadiens fan and I hope they get further than the 1st round this year....although they lost there last year to Carolina, the eventual champions. I really like Christobal Huet in goal for them....I say trade Abeschier because eventually, if they keep up this platoon system, one of them is going to want out because they are both amazing in goal. Any team would be willing to have either of them be the starter.

Colorado has only won 2, and while the Devils have won the same amount of cups, no one has won as many games over that period. The Wings won it back to back which I believe gives them the edge, and that was following losing their best defenseman at the time in the car accident, Konstantinov. I credit the Devils for helping send the Wings on their way, the Devils destroyed the Wings in 1995. In years they won the cup the Wings went 12-1. I think a series between the 95 Devils and the 02 Wings would be the classic of all classics! That 95 Devils team might've been the best defensive team I've seen in the finals in the last 20 years. Broduer still is a great goalie...

I love the Canadiens and Leafs. Those are the teams I root for outside of the Wings. This schedule is total crap, we're lucky to even play Montreal and Toronto in a given year. We're stuck playing Columbus and Nasheville 8 times each per year, complete crap.

It does not give you an edge because you won back to back. Now I do thank you for correcting my error that is a great call on your part. I am not sure I know why I thought Colorado won three in that space of time. Pittburgh back in 1990/1991 and 1991/1992 won back to back, what kind of edge did that give them??? And let it be known, despite last night's loss, Martin Brodeur is the BEST goalie. And now that the Great Patrick Roy is in his rightful place in the Hall of Fame, he can watch Martin Brodeur break all of his records including the most wins by any goaltender which stands at 551. Brodeur has 457 and is in the first year of a six year contract. This year's Cup will feature the Devils with something to prove to the Hurricanes and the Rangers and anyone else who decides they want to get in the train's way. :bump:

I would LOVE to see Broduer destroy all of Roy's records. I wish his bust in the Hall of Fame would be of him looking into his glove and finding NOTHING from Game 6 of the 02 conference finals when he did his Statue of Liberty against the Wings but forgot the puck and the Wings scored, then went on to win 6-0 or something like that.

One thing the NHL is missing, well...all sports are missing right now are true rivalries. No one hates each other anymore. They make so much money that no one gives a crap, therefore the emotion isn't there. Granted, hockey players to give better efforts than the other sports players but the rules don't allow them to 'flex their muscle'. Maybe the Devils can spark something with the Rangers this year!

We have Columbus (sigh) Is there anything good there??? GOSH!! lol

I agree... the schedule sucks! Although it does increase the hatred I share for the Canadiens, Sabres and Senators, LOL. But I truly miss the strong rivalry once shared between the Leafs and Red Wings... just isn't right to let the original six teams not continue their historic rivalries of the past.

And that blasted Brodeur yet again!! Leafs totally outplayed the Devils last night but.... sigh, lol. The guy's a genius, stood on his head the whole game and basically stole one from a good team effort on the Leafs part (missing Sundin and both our starting goalies from this one). Shaping up to be a real dog fight in the East for sure! 😀

wow lots of hockey fans here....i expected this thread to die real quick. Anybody into college hockey as well? I see a lot of NHL'ers but college hockey is fun to watch as well. I wasn't really into it until I got to OSU and started working at the arena....too bad Buckeye hockey isn't nearly as good as football. lol.

I'm a big hockey fan, always have been. The Leafs are definitely my favorite team, and I'm rooting for them, this could be their year for the cup, they're doing quite well thus far this year, hopefully they'll atleast be able to make it into the playoffs this year, unlike last year, they did comes close though. Well in closing, GO LEAFS GO! 😀

Old Goalie

Hi fellow hockey fans, I use to play goal in my younger days. I am a Montreal fan from way back. !966 to be exact. Man, has goaltending changed
since I played.
This so called "New NHL" is pretty free flowing through center ice. I like it.
Also enjoy watching the CCHA and the ECHA. Don't really have a favorite college team. Like to watch North Dakota, Michigan, Wisconsin, BU, BC, Northeastern, and so on.
My one claim to fame is having gone to a local goalie clinic in my home town of Ft. Worth. Our instructor was Glenn "Chico" Resch who use to split time at the Islanders with Billy Smith. If any of you are old enough to remember those days!!! :smilestar

I've followed the NHL since I was a kid and have been a HUGE Bruins fan since the early 70's

Devils fan here. Devils win 5-1 tonight in Atlanta. We are now one point behind the Washington Capitals for 2nd place in the Eastern Conference. And, of course, we are head of the Rangers who will not get past the first round this season. :wavingguy

I went to a fight once and a hockey game broke out.😛

It really is nice to see the Devils playing really well. Marty will be back soon. I think the Devils are REAL contenders for the Stanley Cup this year.

Chicago blackhawks, the roar is back and the future is now

Life-long and knowledgable Red Wings/NHL/hockey fan here. As a kid I saw many games at the old Olympia Stadium in Detroit and later, many at Joe Louis Arena. Grew up on CBC's Hockey Night In Canada airing from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Now, I have Versus, and I have the Sports Tier package on cable where I can watch NHL Network and view many College hockey games on Fox Sports Net, including Michigan State Spartans and Michigan Wolverines, and all the other teams in the CCHA. There's enough hockey for me to watch but if I were not in Michigan to watch the Wings, I'd get the NHL Center Ice package so I could watch all the games. Also have many books on hockey and other sports, too.

I play hockey, too (and coached for many years, winning a few championships). I've been a goalie all my life and still play now. I also play in Detroit at Clark Park, which has an OUTDOOR ice arena. It's where I grew up. We have our own 'Winter Classics'.
