Roy Nelson is the best heavyweight on the planet.
You can strap him to the from of a tank, drive him at 80mph face first into another tank, he'd get up, dust himself off and KO both tanks with an overhand right.
Discuss.

Whilst this is true, he's pretty easily out-struck by someone with even semi-competent stand up (see: JDS, Werdum, Miocic). They may not be able to knock him out but there's no denying he was soundly beaten by all of them. And for the record, I'm a massive Big Country fan.

Hey dude 🙂
1 MMA fan. Not quite as widespread as Dana White would have us believe.
Totally agree that he was a lesser technical striker than any of his 4 big UFC losses Mir, Werdum, Miocic and particularly Dos Santos (who is superb) but he's still learning strinking. I remember a comment from him after the Mitrione fight where he said he was starting to figure out this combo thing. He forgot it again for Miocic obviously (and he probably should know it by now to be a UFC heavyweight contender) but imagine how good he might get.
What he has, the best 1 punch KO power in heavyweight and the best chin in MMA period, cannot be learned.
Velasquez has a suspect chin and average finishing power.
Roy can work on cardio and technical striking. He already has amazing Jiu Jitsu.

Yeah, his raw talent is definitely up there, especially that absurd chin. What I'd really like to see is him drop down to light-heavyweight or even middleweight, it is completely doable if he could be bothered. Considering how well he mixes it up at heavyweight, he would tear it up at lighter classes and he should be able to retain most of his punching power. I don't think he'll ever win the heavyweight title, there's just no way he'll beat either JDS or Velasquez, but he could definitely challenge for light-heavyweight or middleweight.
