Is anyone a singer here?

I belong to a theater group, and every year we do a Christmas concert. We're well into rehearsals right now

Now, for 5 years I have been a tenor....(the majority of our songs are four parts...Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass...) But every now and then we'll do some songs with Tenor 1 and Tenor 2, or even some Baritones. Problem? I can't sing low notes. Not THIS low, anyway. If the notes drop too much, my voice just dissappears into thin air, because I can't go that low.

On the flip side...I can't go that high, either. One of our songs has tenor notes so high that I may need to have my you-know-whats removed to hit them. (I know a few women from my past who might be able to help with that...perhaps even some from my present, too... 😉

So, we're bouncing back and forth between these songs...one way too low, one way too high...my voice is saying to me "Why are you doing this to me?"

We finally get to a song with the perfect tenor part...right in the middle, very easy on my voice. What does my music director do? Moves me to Bass because they need more voices down there!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

What's next, want me to have a try at Soprano? I can break glass, just like Mariah Carey. *sigh*

Anyway, while it is stressful, I suppose it is kind of good to challenge myself vocally. (So I've been told). 🙂

I sing in the shower... does that count??? I can break glass too... if I sing too loud the neighbors chuck bricks through the windows trying to hit me to get me to stop.

LMAO. I was once told with regards to my singing "Don't quit your day job," but I still like to sing certain songs. 😀

That's very cool that you sing, ActingUp. I'd love to be able to sing. I suppose I could make a living by having people pay me not to sing... sigh.

I used to. Unfortunately singing is like maintaining a toned and muscular body....as soon as you stop for any period of time you lose a good portion of what you had.

All through school, from grade school through high school I was involved in music. Choir, Womens Choir (which I was the president of), Concert Choir, A Cappella Choir (which only a select few were chosen to be part of), and Swing Choir (dancing and singing group, also had to be selected, I acted as a choreographer as well). On top of that I was involved in all the school musicals and competed every year for 7 years straight in Solo Ensemble competitions (11 first place medals including one from state). So yeah, I sing.

Or at least used to. As active as I was and as good as I was I really was stupid to get out of it. Now the only singing I do is for my kids who love to listen to me, and for myself occassionally just to see how bad I am now...lol

I sure do miss it, though. 🙁

Singing & music are my life, I just :redheart: love it!! Been in choirs, (church & school) and a few groups, all my life. Have'nt performed in awhile 'cause of work; raising my kid; etc... (Like Mimi) I really miss it too :cry1:

I sing, but it's been a while since I've been in a band, lately it's just solo and for fun. I might start playing piano at a bar when I get my weekends freed up. 🙂

I used to sing with a friend of mine in college. We had open mike coffee house nights, and used to sing some Simon and Garfunkel, and Beatles songs. While I am still friends with the guy I used to sing duets with, we now live far apart, so our singing escapades are few and far between. I had a lot of fun singing with him during our senior year of college. My friend also has an additional talent, in that he can play guitar, while I cant even play a note. I have a pretty decent voice, though.

The group I'm with started the Christmas concert six years ago, and that marked the first time I ever sang in a choir. I loved it, which is why I look forward to the concert every year. Every year we make an effort to "raise the bar" with songs...we've done songs with as many as 10 major singing parts (including the "Hallelujah Chorus" from The Messiah...if you don't know, that's a VERY difficult song for any choir...)

We try to do a little bit of everything...solos, duets, trios, octets, all female numbers, all male numbers, a capella, etc...

A lot of colleges have a capella groups, and its too bad I didn't realize this sooner, or I would have made an effort to join the group at my campus. (I like a capella music. They play a 3-hour block of it on a local radio station around here.)

Can't carry a tune in a bucket myself.😀

I sing...but not professionally........I was once told I ahd a beautiful singing voice........I was singing God Bless America.....
