Are anxious and nervous people more ticklish than those with calm personalities?

The thread of tickling and anxiety made me think of another issue in regard to tickling. Iam interested to hear the forum's feedback to this question. Do you think that people who tend to have more nervous or anxious personalities, are more ticklish than say, a person who is more calm and laid back? Maybe this is a myth, but in my life, I know one person in particular who I'm not going to name, (Someone in my personal life, not a forum member) and she is not only the most nervous and high strung person I know, but probably at this point is also the most ticklish person I know. (Again this is not a forum member, and does not count the ticklishness of forum members) So, Iam curious to hear the forum's feedback to this issue. Thanks.

Mitch

People who are hyperactive, and people who stutter are more ticklish. So...it's possible. Why, feeling paranoid around all these ticklephiles? 😉

I've always felt that either you are or you aren't. I've strongly suspected a hereditary link someplace (if your mom and dad are, then the chances are pretty decent that YOU are), but other than that, either you are or you aren't. Whether you're as laid back as Obi Wan Kanobi, or the other side of the coin, like Don Knotts, it doesn't matter.

I'm working with the theory that it's a learned behavior...but not sure. Anyway, that would mean personality would have a lot to do with it. I guess its all about that play reflex...

I am definitely much more prone to absolutely freaking at wiggling fingers, or even the mere suggestion of tickles to come, if I am anxious or nervous.

this thread made me think of going to my first NEST last year. I was SO nervous! and I completely fell apart and just about climbed through a car door to get away from the tickles I thought might be coming! I owe Jan for that one. (and no, I haven’t forgotten 😉 )

my opine

I agree that heredity plays a big factor. I am mildly anxious in most social situations and often not very ticklish however if I have a few drinks and become more relaxed I do become somewhat more ticklish.

I worry 42.37 times more than the average person.

I have lost 90% of my response to tickling

About the only thing that works is hot/warm soapy water on the feet.

Almost zero ticklish everywhere else.

makes not a lot of difference inmy experience-- the calmest people can absolutely fall about when tickled

It doesn't apply here for me either...

XOXO
