Are The New York Yankees Nothing More Than The ATM Machine Of Major League Baseball?

I've been watching the Yankees this season and it's been the same story for a while now in terms of the way Yankees get players. Other teams have a player who has some good years for the team and then it's time for free agency which in baseball means sign with the NY Yankees. A player like Mark Teixera or AJ Burnett will do well in smaller markets, maybe even be with a team for the playoff run and then it's time to think about the wife and kids in terms of a future so they come up with the usual "it's always been my dream to play for the Yankees" speech, take the money and then play like their half asleep. Why don't the Yankees see that trying to build a free agent all star team each year doesn't work while developing young talent or acquiring them through trades like the Tampa Bay Rays does work. Is management just interested in selling merchandise with CC Sabathia's name on the back? Are the Yanks nothing more than a high priced retirement home? :pie:

Taking high caliber talent helps them because it hurts their competition.

Tampa Bay is good because they sucked for so long they scored awesome draft picks

Hell, the cubs at one point had Prior and Wood, who were drafted after 100 loss seasons.

Sabbathia is a major pitcher, also even tho i dont see the hype, they are cultivating Chamberlain.

and how has their formula not worked? They've been a perennial playoff team for how long not counting last season

Tampa Bay made a major trade with the Twins to get Matt Garza and a valuable throw in as well so they did a little wheeling and dealing. Also it seems that ever since the started simply signing every free agent out there although they make it to the first round of the playoffs, they lose and that's it. I don't think the gargantuan salaries the Yankees pay these players justify a playoff quickie. :cry1:
