I've been watching the Yankees this season and it's been the same story for a while now in terms of the way Yankees get players. Other teams have a player who has some good years for the team and then it's time for free agency which in baseball means sign with the NY Yankees. A player like Mark Teixera or AJ Burnett will do well in smaller markets, maybe even be with a team for the playoff run and then it's time to think about the wife and kids in terms of a future so they come up with the usual "it's always been my dream to play for the Yankees" speech, take the money and then play like their half asleep. Why don't the Yankees see that trying to build a free agent all star team each year doesn't work while developing young talent or acquiring them through trades like the Tampa Bay Rays does work. Is management just interested in selling merchandise with CC Sabathia's name on the back? Are the Yanks nothing more than a high priced retirement home?
