I'm sure a thread of this nature has been made before, but for the life of me, I can't remember who made it.

The sound of their voice, their attitude, behaviour, lyrics, look, or whatever. Is there somebody on the radio be it performer or DJ or host that makes you flick off the dial and say "nope! none of that!"
I find it funny that I used to dislike it when people said that they hated everything on the radio and don't ever listen( some even include SIRIUS). I used to think they were pretentious. These days I find less and less to like and listen to. Is it a sign of my age or am I just a lot smarter than the new generation? Idunno. I don't want to think about it right now. My back hurts. And my right knee too.

But I just really wanted to expunge my hatred of the band Marianas Trench. I can't stand whiney, snivelling high-pitched vocals. Their lyrics are stupid too.

Sting/The Police
Madonna
Bruce Springsteen
Billy Joel
Huey Lewis and the News
Whitney Houston
Celine Dione
Bryan Adams

I'd continue, but I'm sure I pissed off some people.......and don't really care.

Nonsense DJ chatter. I don't mind if it's constructive, funny or interesting, but the other day the radio was on and the DJ was talking about "things you find in a drawer". I mean, seriously. An actual on air discussion, encouraging listeners to participate by sending in things that they've found in drawers.
Also, anything dubstep-py. I walked out of a shop the other day because I couldn't bear the awful sounds they were subjecting me to.
Mainly the radio just makes me feel like a grouchy old woman.

Winger

Tim McGraw and/or Faith Hill
Sugarland
Garth Brooks
and other so-called country music

Huey Lewis and the News (nothing like real cheese, eh?)
Hootie and Le Suckfish
Music that they play in clothing stores.
Spin Doctors (what the fuck was that all about?)
Presidents of the United States of America
Four Non-Blondes (over-the-top singing...pass)
NsyncBackstreetNewBoysKids....puuuuuuuuuuke!

I'm among those who pretty much gave up on "mainstream" radio long ago. I listen to KMFA, a local non-profit station that plays classical music and, sometimes, KTU which is the local NPR affiliate. I listen to the local talk shows on KLBJ now and then for the amusement factor. Having a CD player in my car is like manna from heaven.

I can't remember the last time I listened to the radio, let alone what channel it's on. Maybe one day I'll find out.

Oh, I'm sorry......I forgot to mention Kenny Loggins and Dave Matthews in my list.

Have to agree with Nickelback. They are the epitome of that. Like, there are artists I'd rather not listen to or certain songs that are great yet are played to death, but Nickelback is one of the only things that kickstarts my survival instinct. Worse yet I never listen to the radio and they still manage to show up everywhere. Pure desperation! SMASH DECK OR SCREEN. Whatever it takes. Staind is up there.

Most radio is pure garbage and it really spiraled since the 90s because they wanted to consolidate everything and most of the great modern bands you'll rarely find on a station, if at all. Satellite affords more fun and eclectic tastes (seeing public figures playlists is interesting too), but pure control with a CD or file player can't be beat. People were doing it with blank cassettes all the time back in the day and that's how most people want it: customized to your soul. DJ chatter is almost never funny or interesting. They're not far from the PA guys at strip clubs and the really good ones are constantly neutered cause they have to push this and that.

Hell yeah, Dave Matthews is garbage!!

I disagree about Kenny Loggins, but I'm not offended. In other words....

:sing: I'm alri-ight! Nobody worry 'bout me!

Dave Matthews sounds like Kermit the Frog gargling
Creed is a boy band with guitars
Pearl Jam had only one good album.

I will avoid listening to any oldies station due to the increased risk of exposure to these bands:

Styx
Air Supply
REO Speedwagon

Nickelback
Tragically Hip
U2
Coldplay
Simple Plan
Theory of a Deadman

An old friend once described radio jocks as failed comedians. From what I've heard, I've got no reason to doubt him! (I've never been crazy about Howard Stern, but at least he had some balls).

Also, anything dubstep-py. ...

Don't even get me started...I've loved electronic music for years. I'm not too crazy about some of the earlier stuff like some of the atonal bleeps and blorps of say, the Columbia-Princeton Lab in the sixties. But even that was at least played or programmed by human beings. And I'd rather listen to that than get slugged in the gut by a mechanized loop with no style or substance.

I will do the same. Just because I'm a baby-boomer doesn't mean I wanna spend all my life listening to songs from my youth that I got tired of long ago.

As for the original question:

1) Rod Stewart
2) Paul McCartney (anything after "Band On The Run").
2.5) Billy Joel
3) Any number of dance-music divas - black or white - with cloyingly-sweet voices.
4) Most so-called love songs. Come on, even teens have more brains than radio programmers give them credit for!

I can't stand Celene Dion. If her song comes on the radio, I turn it off instantly. If I see her on TV, I change the channel in a nano second. When I am in Vegas, I walk on the opposite side of the street of Caesar's Palace.

I don't listen to the radio. I've found most of the mix or top 40 stuff became intolerable around 2001 or 2002. The few times I hear it in public places, it seems to have gotten worse.

Anything by Nikki Minaj....she annoys to a level that no other supposed "artist" has ever annoyed me.

Any modern pop, rap, hip hop, frankly just any modern day manufactured noise. Yes that's right I refuse to call it music it's just noise!

Poison
Toby Keith
NEIL DIAMOND!!!!!!!!111!!!!!
Verve Pipe
Any song that starts out with "yeauh, yah, uhuh!"

But then again, my opinion doesn't matter since I'm coming to the realization that Bjork's music is epic in all it's strangeness... I'm immediately disqualified from this thread by default.
