The Atlanta Braves have announced that they have acquired First Baseman Adam Laroche from the Boston Red Sox, in exchange for first baseman Casey Kotchman.

As most baseball fans know, Laroche played for the Braves before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for reliever Mike Gonzalez.

I like this deal for the Braves. They badly needed a power bat, and Casey Kotchman has little if any power. Hopefully this deal will result in the Braves scoring more runs, so that they can take aim at the wild card.

If anyone has the link to this story, and could post, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

You got a guy that is the poster-boy for the term mediocre .

he has 13hrs 43rbi and an .243avg from a 1st baseman. At least your team did something before the trade deadline. My Rangers for the 1st time in a long time are still in the race for the the division and wildcardand DON`T DO SHIT.

Speak for yourself... this coming from the ultimate in complete WTF-eries as a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Keep in mind Laroche's numbers are with Pittsburgh mostly so that might be an indicator: ur only as good as your surroundings.

One thing I didnt like about this trade, that I didnt realize until after I posted this, is that Laroche is a free agent after this year, so the Braves might have to look for another first baseman in the winter, if they cant, or wont, sign Lacroche.

I think that Laroche will do better with the Braves than he did with the Pirates. Pittsburgh is a team going nowhere, while the Braves can hopefully compete for the wild card.

ATLANTA -- Braves general manager Frank Wren didn't know if he'd make a deal before Friday's Trade Deadline expired. But once the Red Sox acquired Cleveland's Victor Martinez and Adam LaRoche became expendable, Wren opted to bring the first baseman back to Atlanta.

Shortly before Friday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, Wren sent Casey Kotchman to the Red Sox in exchange for LaRoche and cash considerations.

With this exchange of first basemen, the Braves gained one that provides power on a more consistent basis. LaRoche has hit at least 20 homers each of the past four seasons, while Kotchman hit a total of eight in the 130 games he played for the Braves.

Kotchman, who was acquired by the Braves before last year's Trade Deadline in exchange for Mark Teixeira, has shown some recent signs of life. In his past 22 games, he has hit .333 with four homers and a .528 slugging percentage.

"I'm a little surprised, but not overwhelmingly surprised, with how the game is and how the business is," Kotchman said.

LaRoche, who had been acquired by the Red Sox in a July 22 trade with the Pirates, has consistently provided most of his offensive production after the All-Star break. His career second-half numbers include a .295 batting average and an .899 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage).

While Kotchman has two more arbitration-eligible seasons remaining, LaRoche will be a free agent at the conclusion of this year.

LaRoche, who previously played for the Braves from 2004-06, is expected to arrive in Atlanta some time Friday night. The Braves have promoted Barbaro Canizares from Triple-A Gwinnett to be available to play during Friday night's series opener against the Dodgers.

Ask and you shall receive.

Funny there are 28 other teams in MLB and you told us about this trade??? :illogical I thought Victor Martinez was traded. I thought Jake Peavy was traded. Wasn't Washburn traded??? There were SO MANY trades, why tell us about a trade that will probably NOT impact either team??? If you were going to tell us about uninspiring trades, why didn't you tell us about the 800 trades the Pirates made this season. :facepalm2:

4u, I'm a Braves fan, so sue me, lol. I cant post about every trade. Honestly, I dont know how this trade will impact the Braves. I wasnt thrilled when I saw Laroche was a free agent after this year, but I also heard that the Braves have a young first baseman named Freddie Freeman, who they could promote next year.

Can I really sue you for being a Braves fan??? That is not a half bad idea. I will check in with my attorney in the morning. 😎
