I just read in the Atlanta Journal Constitution that Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is likely going to announce his retirement very soon, effective at the end of the 2010 season. As fans who follow baseball are aware, Chipper is having a very poor season for the Braves, and has been injury prone the last several years.
Chipper has had a great career, and I will be sorry to see him leave. However, he does earn a very high salary, and, with the Braves payroll constraints, his retirement could be a positive thing, in that it will allow the Braves to persue a younger, more productive player.
