It has been announced on the Atlanta Braves website, that the Braves have finalized two major trades, acquiring slugging first baseman Mark Texiara from the Rangers, for several players, and Kansas City Royals closer Octavio Dotel, for pitcher Kyle Davies. The Braves have improved themselves dramatically with these deals, getting a 25 to 35 home run hitter for the middle of their lineup, and a closer, to either replace, or share duties, with, the inconsistent Bob Wickman. If everyone stays healthy, this deal, should make the Braves the favorite to win the National League Wild Card, and, perhaps, if they play well, and the Mets cool down a little, a possible contender for the NL East. Braves genius GM John Scherholtz does it again, pulling off blockbuster deadline deals. Additionally, the acquisition of Texiara, allows the Braves to almost certainly part ways with center fielder Andruw Jones after the 2007 season, and not feel his loss of production in their lineup.
Great Job, John. Hopefully, these trades will help the Braves immediately in the standings.
