I just got in front of the computer, and was shocked to learn that the Atlanta Braves have given Hall of Fame Pitcher Tom Glavine his unconditional release. Glavine has won 305 games in the major leagues, including 244 for the Braves, and as most baseball fans know, he was rehabbing from shoulder surgery, had been pitching well, and was supposed to join the Braves this week. The "house men" line given by the Braves is that Glavine's presence on the roster was impeding the arrival of top pitching prospect Tommy Hanson.
My question is, if the Braves were going to release Glavine, why did they sign him in the first place? They should at least have let Glavine pitch a few games, before making this decision.
Terrible, classless move, Braves! First John Smoltz earlier this year, and now Tom Glavine.
I hope Glavine catches on with someone else for the rest of the year. Maybe he can go back to the Mets. After the way the Braves treated him, Glavine should, when the time comes, wear a Mets cap when he goes into the Hall of Fame.
If anyone has a link to the story of Glavine's release, and could post it, it would be appreciated.
