"Bankees" (Yankees) Officially Miss Playoffs For Only Second Time Since 1993
It's official.. 200 plus million does NOT buy you a playoff spot in major league baseball. Last night, the Bankees. (Er, Yankees) were officially eliminated from playoff contention for only the second time since 1993.
Granted, the Yankees, who will finish this year with a mediocre record.. do have some reasons for not making it. Most of all. Derek Jeter, who led the league in hits last year, has been on the DL most of the year.
In spite of this, and in spite of having some decent other players, another major problem for the Bankees is their age. Mariano Rivera is 43 and will be retiring. Andy Pettite is 41 and has had an up and down year, and then there is Jeter.
I just read a list of possibilities of baseball managers who may be fired, and Yankee manager Joe Girardi is on that list. I don't think he deserves to be fired, after the injuries his team has dealt with. I've also heard that he might voluntarially leave the Yankees, for another open managing job, in another city.
Thoughts on the Bankees, and their year? What do people think will happen with them during the off season?
