Bare feet and submission

For me there’s something about a woman in her bare feet that just exudes submission. It makes her humble and vulnerable. Is there anyone else who feels this way?

Submission? I don't follow. Seeing someone barefoot to me says exactly the opposite. Freedom, powerful, not held back by society's rules and norms. Society demands were wear shoes to fit in, to be a part of society. I think one of the more powerful visual messages is that of a woman kicking off her heels or shoes and barefooting it. I don't see a submissive woman. I see someone who doesn't give a damn, who wants to be comfortable and free and won't let societal norms and rules hold her back.

I must say though, I am intrigued as to why you associate being barefoot with being helpless and submissive. I mean, I guess on a literal surface level, bare feet are more vulnerable and unprotected than feet with shoes, but other than that, I don't get the submissive part at all.

This is especially true for women who make foot fetish porn and seduce men with their feet and shoes.
While I can see a woman's feet being vulnerable to sneak tickle attacks if she was barefoot, which could make it difficult to defend herself if they're very ticklish and her ler is restraining her in the process, I wouldn't describe that as her being submissive because that situation instinctively leads to fight or flight. Maybe OP is confusing submissiveness with being exposed and personal when describing a woman being barefoot.

I don't necessarily feel the same, but I can understand the association. Having your feet stripped bare was a punishment in the middle ages particularly for women who committed minor crimes. I think bare feet were associated with poverty hence it was used to humiliate people. Several religions also identify bare feet with humility.

In the modern age these attitudes have faded for the most part, but art depicting that era is still in abundance, so I can see why you'd see a woman without foot ware as looking humble and submissive.

I can definitely see that. I imagine back in the day, making shoes was expensive, so the only people that could really afford them were the affluent. There's also the whole thing with bare feet in religion, especially Christianity and the washing of the feet. Now I'm not the most religious and that could symbolize something else altogether, but in a way, I do feel that that is partially where the humility comes from.

I figure that all probably started to change maybe around the 60s, give or take, with hippies and free souls and everything. Being barefoot began to be viewed less as a humble and poverty thing and moreso as freedom, choice, etc.

The same thing could be applied to other free-spirited groups of people which predate the hippies

I can see both sides of this. I think of it more as an amplifier. If the woman is already expressing submissiveness in some way, it amplifies that, and if she is expressing herself in a more dominant way, it amplifies that. I think bare feet catch attention differently, standing out because of the normalization of footwear for utility and expression (even for non-foot fetishists to some extent). It's that one odd thing in the otherwise normal painting that makes you start to notice more details about the normal parts. I think the same thing is probably true about certain socks or shoes that "pop" in some way, catching more of our conscious attention rather than more subtly affecting us subliminally.
