Baseball Off Season Moves Prediction Thread

The Dodgers have acquired Juan Pierre with a 5-year, $44 million contract. I consider that to be good news. 😀

I am happy they signed him, but not for that price. You are committing huge amounts of money for a soft slap-hitting singles hitter, with no power, and a wet noodle for an arm. For a team that needs power in the worst way, signing Pierre for that kind of money is shocking

furthermore, he is a lead off man who has to hit his way on, has a very low walk rate, and can be pitched to.

There being no salary cap in baseball, merely a payroll tax, I don't worry about how much money. It's Frank McCourt's money, not mine, and he's got plenty.

His point was Pierre sucks for that price. You will get him on base only 32% of the time and his arm as an outfielder is suspect at best. Money poorly spent. But it is your team so I really don't care. I am happy for you if you are happy. 😀

Braves GM John Scherholtz made a great move today. Tom Glavine? Nope! Greg Maddux? Nope! Barry Zito! Ah-ah. He got... Tanyon Sturze! Woo hoo! I am doing cartwheels! I forsee old Tanyon getting the last out of the Braves World Series win next October. Good going, John!

Mitch

The Dodgers have signed a three-year contract with Jason Schmidt. It is a good thing they acquired a quality starting pitcher as a free agent, especially since Maddux decided not to stay. 😀

I will have to put out of my mind exactly which team Schmidt has recently played for. 😛 😛

Shame that my Jays haven't gotten what they were looking for in another good pitcher or two to offset the loss of Ted Lilly. One of the biggest positives was that they resigned Vernon Wells, but he came with a steep price tag of a 7 yr/$126 mil deal. (Biggest in Jays history) They also augmented their offense with acquisitions in Frank Thomas, Canadian Matt Stairs and IF Royce Clayton. While Wells, Thomas, Stairs and Clayton are good ball players, being in the shadow of the Red Sox and the Yankees in the AL East means that the Jays need to boost their starting rotation and possibly add a reliable reliever. A.J. Burnett and Roy Halliday were good at times but in predictable, and disappointing, fashion last year: Burnett was mostly unreliable coming off injury and Halliday reinjured the wrist on his throwing hand toward the tail end of the season. (220.00 IP last year, next closest Jay: Lilly at 181.00) With the majority of the decent starters signed now, the Jays are looking at the trade route.

If you were another team and you had a decent and reliable pitcher to send to the Jays, would you send that pitcher and what/who would you want in return? Opinions appreciated! 🙂
