I visited the Cape May Zoo a short while ago. I saw a goat there, along with other livestock. My niece had a roll of those stupid "My Name Is" stickers. I took one, drew a Cubs logo on it, and wrote 'Natural' under it, and put it on the goat's forehead. How convenient...

Knox, my friend, I was laughing til ya put Natural on it. Well, it will make it that much sweeter when we win. And when we do win, don't hide. eat yourcrow in public like a man😀

Bearable...

Having the Cubs and Red Sox around helps make being a Mets fan slightly more bearable...slightly.

Here's hoping anyone BUT the Yankees win it this year...*raises cyber glass*.

Q

Natural, if it ever did happen (a remote occurance; sort of like Bush having me over to dinner with Dick Cheney), I certainly would eat my crow. I'd even eat crow for the Sox too.

On sports in Chicago: I read in one of the very late 'Sports Illustrateds' an interview with Dick Butkus. I can't believe how the Bears' management stuck a salami up his ass...all after being the greatest middle lineman of the era by far, and the team's symbol of the day...not easy when you're sharing the headlines with Gale Sayers. He got hurt and the club refused to pay the money that was due him, and he had to file a lawsuit to get it. They didn't even retire his number; in the 80s, when the Bears ruled again, his number was worn by a far inferior lineman named Morrissey. All I ever hear about is how McCaskey sucks anyway. I didn't think he sucked this bad.

LOL, I get such a kick out of people who constantly bash the Yankees.
I honestly think they spend more time worrying about them than their own team. People don't fear losers, they fear winners, so the more bashing, the more my point is proven. I laugh at some of my friends who are Mets fans, who sit and watch a game hoping the Yanks lose. I just sit back and laugh at them and tell them they should be more worried about the Mets winning than the Yanks losing. As for the Red Sox fans, I can understand, that's just rivalry in the standings. It actually means something between the two teams who wins and loses.

I don't think there will be a better game than last years ALCS series
between the Yankees and Red Sox anyway. The series was so good a hockey game even broke out, lol.

Go Yankees!!

I don't have a problem with the Yankees...

The following rant may be offensive to some members of this forum. I am sorry if I upset anybody with my views. I am always willing to discuss them if you wish to.

My problem is not with the Yankees. My problem is with the the childish, obnoxious primary owner named George Steinbrenner.

Dear George:

Thank you, George, for paying the outrageous salaries to the players. (Do you realize that you could have probably bought the island of Puerto Rico for what your current Yankee payroll is this year???) While I agree that if some sucker is willing to overpay them then they are worth what ever the sucker is willing to pay. You, however, have consistantly demonstrated complete fiscal irresponsibility to the fans of baseball.

Once upon a time, a family of four could go to a ball game, eat hotdogs, drink coke or beer, and have a great time for reasonable costs. Now it is well OVER $100 for a family of four at most ballparks.

Thank you, George, for your lessons on integrety. During the days of the Pete Rose scandal with Fay Vincent, you renigged on a contractual agreement with Dave Winfield where you were supposed to contribute to the Dave Winfield Foundation which caters to underpriveledged children. When he was forced to sue you for breach of contract, you tried to have him banished from the game for "alledgedly" gambling. Dave Winfield was a class act. you could have learned from him. Do you remember the suspension you received from MLB??? It wasn't nearly long enough.

Thank you, George, for proving that money does not buy respect. While I cannot argue that you are a multi-millionaire, I cannot respect you either. How can I respect an over-grown child who thinks that wealth excuses his immature temper tantrums. Will you please shove that pacifier back into your mouth and spare us any further embarrassments?!?

And somehow, George, I don't think that you really have a firm grip on the basics of baseball. In the hierarchy of things we have the owner(s) (That's you, George), then we have the team presidents and vice presidents, then we have the team general manager, the we have the manager (You don't deserve Joe Torre - he is much too good for you), then we have the various coaches (bench, 1st base, 3rd base, pitching, bullpen...) then we have the players. Having established that for you, I would like to know how you are any less responsible for the way a player performs on the field than the manager. In other words, is it the players fault if he is in a hitting or fielding slump or is it upper management? You have fired more than your share of managers, George. You have even made disparaging comments about Joe Torre. Do you have any idea just how stupid that makes you look? Keeping in mind that the responsibility starts at the top, and YOU are at the top. Not Joe Torre, not Don Zimmer (You let a good man get away there, George. Not very smart.),You are at the top, Goerge. Billy Martin took the fall way too many times for your mistakes. You, afterall, bare the responsibility - you should have fired yourself long ago.

You might not believe this, George, but you are not above the game of baseball. As a matter of fact, baseball will be around, and flourishing, long after you are dead and gone. Baseball does not need an overgrown child pricing fans out of the game We need solutions - not problems. Since you choose to be a part of the problem and not a part of the solution, I am asking you to please just resign and go away. We are tired of you temper tantrums and we are tired of you acting inthe worst interest of baseball.

Wouldn't it be grand if A-rod, Jeeter, Giambi and Matsui all found themselves mired in batting slumps only to watch Boston and Baltimore surge past the Yankees?

Go RedSox Go Angeles!

I am now stepping off of my soapbox.

GO MGCTOUCH GO!! Bro that was excellent. Ive hated Steinbrenner for the longest time now. See back in the 80s here in ohio, George owned AmShip. AmShip was American Ship Building. They had a shipyard here in my city. My grandfather worked for them as a supervisor. George decided one day that he was going to Close down the yard and move it to tampa florida. well some guys couldnt make the move down there. So, they opted for the early retirement. George really lowered the boom on them when He took the pensions all these men worked hard for. They never seen a dime from george. He got lawyers to fight the workers and he eventually won. Its a shame he owns "Americas Team" that plays in "Americas Favorite Pasttime". Thats some of the reason hes got all this money. The other is the media in NYC. I say baseball needs a salary cap so there isnt just one major powerhouse in baseball. Frankly tho, they havent impressed me yet. They never do.

I agree with you mgctouch. I don't know of anyone , including Yankee fans, that like G.S. The only thing we do like, is that he wants a winning team on the field all the time. I know it doesn't take a lot of money to do so, last year proving that point, but I know players on just about every team likes the idea of a commitment to putting a winning team on the field everyday. There are a lot of teams that wish the owners would do so. I just wish he wasn't such an a**hole.
What he did to Torre and Zimmer was totally uncalled for. He is a crybaby and an idiot. I can go on, but everyone else is aware of anything that I may add so...

The other thing I hate, is listening to people bash players like Derek
Jeter. The guy has done nothing but play his butt off since he came up. He didn't label himself as one of the greatest shortstops in baseball, the media is responsible for that. All he does everyday is play baseball and gives 100% everytime, nothing more. Christ! the guy dove headfirst into the stands and the next day was ready to play. I understand the situation must suck for Nomar, being trade bait and all,but come on!! Sitting in the dugout sulking and being paid good money. :sowrong: You're being paid good money to play, so go out and be a professional and play and wait for the trade day.

Personally, I think all sports players are overpaid but the fans are the ones who fill the stands and buy the merchandise. We could hold the sportsworld by the balls (no pun intended 😀 ). So, I don't want to hear anyone who does as such, cry about overpaid athletes.

Aside from all that....Go Yankees!! 😛

how about what Steinbrenner did to Yogi Berra in 1985? The scumbag swore up and down to the media that he would manage the Yankees throughout the season. guess what? 14 games into the season, Steinbrenner fires him and replaces him with Billy Martin. yogi was so pissed that he vowed never to set foot in Yankee stadium as long as "that man" was running the team. I think it was very big of him to return to the stadium in 2000(?). I know how much it killed him because I used to play racquetball at Yogi Berras on Route 46 in NJ and I saw him moping behind the front desk, knowing exactly what was on his mind. He is a great guy and to see that happen to him was criminal.

Well said. I couldn't agree with you more. Derek Jeeter has always been a class act.

My little wish for Jeeter, Giambi, A-Rod and Mastui all having slumps bares no reflection on my feelings towards those palyers and I have the utmost respect for them. I just love to see Steinbrenner lose!

Here's a thought... Maybe all the other MLB cities should have thier own ticker-tape parades on the day Baby George finally takes retires from baseball - Truly a reason to celebrate.

For me, Steinbrenner has one attribute that seems to dampen all the others...and that's an ability to laugh at himself and ham it up. I saw a photo in a recent Sports Illustrated of him, portrait posing, dressed as George Washington, with a fierce look on his face. That he allowed himself to be so effectively lampooned on 'Seinfeld' does say something about his sense of humor. He reportedly loved the satire, and watched it on TV as much as he could.
Many things bugged me though, and still do. His pathological need to publicize himself has never quite abated. When things go right, it's because of him, and when things go wrong, it's the hitting coach, the pitching coach, the one hundred and eleven thousand managers he's hired or fired, the GM. Never him, and his meddling, and his head games.
His covetousness is another. The New York Yankees have a farm system solely for the purpose of offering fresh meat to other teams for THEIR stars, if he can't sign them as free agents outright. If a guy becomes a star elsewhere, George wants him to prove that he's omnipotent, never mind if he doesn't fit in the lineup. The whole thing with A-Rod was to stick it to an opponent who has never beaten him. Come to think of it, they have never beaten Pinstripe Rome in any of our lifetimes. Doesn't matter to George, though. They could've lived without Alex Rodriguez, they could've spruced up the right side of the infield, gotten more quality pitching. But the opportunity to stick it to Boston just couldn't be ignored, and he is the best player in the game to boot.
There's a whole generation of people out there, Yankees fans, who grew up in the late 90s and today, who never saw the real George Steinbrenner, and would actually be incredulous if they heard the old stories about him. Amazing.
