I decided that we should try to record the results of these games the best we can. But I do need help from you guys too. I will try to record as many game results as I cannot do it everyday. I will try to for as many as I can. Let's start with tonight's game between the defending World Champions St.Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets. This is considered opening day, but me being a more trad kinda guy, I know Opening Day is tomorrow when you can see your teams introduced on your team's television network. You can get excited. Having opening day on ESPN is useless because you don't get the flavor of your team or even your opponents team. But I digress. Tonight the two aces Chris Carpenter vs. 290 game winner Tom Glavine. The Mets got to Chris Carpenter early as Carlos Delgado hit an opposite field double to drive in two. Paul LoDuca hit a bases loaded single driving in two. But the key to the Mets tonight was their defense as the Amazins turn 4 double plays and Beltran ( who drove in a run ) threw David Eckstein out at the plate. The Cardinals were only able to fashion one run off of Glavine in 6 innings. Carpenter took the loss and Glavine nailed down his 291st win. Final score from Busch Stadium, Mets defeat the Cardinals 6-1. Here is how it looks in the boxscore.

Some great games in baseball's traditional Opening Day. In the National League, the Marlins behind Dontrell Willis's 6 innings and one earned run clobbered the Nationals 9-2. Miguel Cabrera went 3 for 4 and had 4 RBI. In Philadelphia, Brian McCann opened up the Braves scoring with a homerun and Edgar Renteria had 2 homeruns including the game-winner in the 10th inning as the Braves toppled the Phillies 5-3. In Milwaukee, the Brewers opened up their home schedule by dismantling the Dodgers 7-1. Ben Sheets is the story here as he pitched a complete game 2 hitter. Derek Lowe threw 84 pitches in 4 innings giving up 6 earned runs and walking 5. The 84 pitches is only 20 less than Sheets threw the ENTIRE game. Brewers beat the Dodgers 7-1. In Cincinnati, it was the same old story for the Cubs as they were beaten 5-1. Adam Dunn crushed 2 homeruns in making Carlos Zambrano look more like Victor Zambrano. Aaron Harang went 7 innings giving up no earned runs. Reds win 5-1. In Colorado, Eric Byrnes, Orlando Hudson and Scott Hairston combined for 6 RBI as the Arizona Diamondbacks ( playing in their 10th year ) beat the Colorado Rockies ( playing in their 15th season ) 8-6. Juan Cruz picked up the win in relief and Latroy Hawkins lost in relief. In Houston, Xavier Nady blasted a 2 out game tying homerun in the 9th off of closer Brad Lidge and then Jason Bay hit a 2 run homer in the 10th as the Pirates beat the Astros 4-2. Chad Qualls gave up Bay's homerun lost and Matt Capps won in relief.

In the American League, Toronto knocked off the Tigers in 10 innings 5-3. Troy Glaus singled off of Fernando Rodney ( 0-1 ) in the 10th inning to make the score 4-3. The Jays got another run on a ground out to provide the winning margin. Gary Sheffield was 0 for 3 with 2 RBI in his Tigers debut. In New York, Carl Pavano with 634 days rest was ineffective. Inspite of that, the Yankees beat the Devil Rays 9-5. The Yankees got 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief from their bullpen as they allowed only 3 hits and struck out 5. Jorge Posada and Alex Rodriguez hit homers as the Yankees beat Tampa Bay 9-5. In Chicago, the Indians had fun with the White Sox as they scored five in the first, four more in the second and added two more in the third as they crushed the ChiSox 12-5. C.C. Sabathia got the easy win going 6 innings and Jose Contreras went 1 inning and gave up 7 earned runs took the loss. In Kansas City, the Royals opened up the season by beating up Curt Schilling and the Red Sox 7-1. Gil Meche, the Royals $55 million man went 7 1/3 inning allowing 6 hits and striking out 6. Mark Grudzielanek had 3 RBI and John Buck hit a solo homer. Royals beat Boston 7-1. In Seattle, Felix Hernandez went 8 innings and struck out 12 as the Mariners beat the A's 4-0. The Mariners took advantage of Bobby Crosby's error in the 6th inning and Richie Sexton blasted a long 3 run homer to dead center off of losing pitcher Dan Haren to give the M's a 4-0 victory. In Minnesota, the Twins got back to back homeruns off the bats last year's MVP Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter and they both drove in 2 runs as the Twins beat the Orioles 7-4. Johan Santana went 6 innings to get the win and Erik Bedard went 4 2/3 gave up 6 runs took the loss. And in Anaheim, the Angels lead the Rangers 3-1 with 2 out in the top of the 7th inning. Casey Kotchman has homer for the Halos in this game. Enjoy the games everyone.

Good to see you around again, my friend. Thanks for the recap, and I hope all is well with you and Amy.

You are welcome sir. We are doing okay.

The last game I left you with was the Angels and Rangers from Anaheim. That game was 3-1 with 2 outs in the 7th and the Rangers batting. The Angels added a run in the 8th and defeated the Rangers 4-1. John Lackey recorded the win as he allowed one unearned run over 5 innings of work walking 4 and striking out 5 while giving up 4 hits. Kevin Millwood was saddled with the loss. Final from Anaheim, Angels 4-Rangers 1. There are nine games on tap today which includes 6 games from the National League. We will take care of those games later. But one last look back, Here is last night's boxscore of the Angels/Rangers game. Have a GREAT day everyone and enjoy the games.

Like I said earlier, we had 9 games in the Majors today.

In the National League, the Giants unvailed their new 126 million dollar pitcher and all the hype about how deep into games he goes went completely by the boards in start #1. Barry Zito gave the Giants only 5 innings in his first start in San Francisco as the Padres roughed up the Giants 7-0. Zito went 5 innings gave 3 runs ( though only two were earned ) on 4 hits and walked two batters including the number 8 hitter Jose Cruz Jr with the bases loaded. Cruz would end the game with 2 RBIs and the Padres Jake Peavy would end up with the win. Peavy went 6 innings and gave up 3 hits. Padres win 7-0. In Washington, the Marlins beat up on the Nationals again 9-3. Josh Willingham and Miguel Olivo contributed 2 RBIs apiece to give Scott Olson his first win of the year. In Milwaukee, Prince Fielder clobbered a solo homerun and Kevin Mench mashed a the differece making 2 run blast as the Brewers beat the Dodgers 4-3. Kevin Mench's two run homer was hit in the sixth inning to give the Brewers a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish. The Brewers bullpen was strong going 4 innings and the Dodgers hitters could only manage 2 hits the final 4 innings. Brian Shouse picked up the win in relief as the Brewers beat the Dodgers 4-3. In Houston, Xavier Nady slammed another homerun and drove in the game winning run in the 8th inning as the Pirates rallied from behind again the beat the Astros 3-2. Ian Snell went the first 6 innings for the Pirates allowed 2 runs while striking out 11 batters. Jason Jennings went 6 innings as well and gave up one run and struck out 7. Neither started got the decision but the Pirates did get the decision as they beat the Astros again 4-3. In St.Louis, the ageless one proved you do not need a DH. Just practice. Orlando Hernandez went seven strong innings giving up only one run, on a Scott Rolen homerun, on 5 hits as the Mets beat the Cardinals 4-1. But while Hernandez was the pitching star, he also started two 1-6-3 double plays on defense and then at the plate went two for three including the back breaking two run double that gave the Mets a 4-0 lead. The Cardinals never recovered and they look to salvage the series finale in St.Louis tomorrow night. The win extends the Mets regular season winning streak over the Cardinals to five games. In Colorado, Stephen Drew drove in the go-ahead run for the Rockies in the top of the 11th, but it was Troy Tulowitzki who tied the game with two outs in the 11th with a double that smashed off of Eric Byrnes wrist and Chris Iannetta who drove in Tulowitzki with the game winner. I was fortunate enough to see the end of this exciting contest. Rockies win in 11 over the Diamondbacks 4-3.

In the American League, there was only three games on the schedule. The Baltimore Orioles faced off against the Twins in Minnesota and were beaten again. Pat Neshek won the game in relief of Boof Bonzer ( yes folks, that really is his name ). Daniel Cabrera pitched 7 innings and gave up three runs was saddled with the loss. With two outs in the fifth, Cabrera failed to field a comebacker off of the bat of Luis Castillo right at him which allowed Jason Kubel to score from third to tie the score at 2-2. Jason Bartlett in the 7th drove in Jason Tyner with what proved to be the winning run. Tyner who ran for Rondell White ,who had singled, stole second to put himslef in position to score the game winning run. Joe Nathan picked up his second save in as many night and the Twins beat Baltimore 3-2. In Seattle, Richie Sexson hit a two run homer and Yuniesky Betancourt hit a 2 run blast and Ichiro Suzuki had 2 hits and 2 RBI as the Mariners kept up their winning as they beat up the Athletics 8-4. The Mariners now are 2-0 on the young season. For Sexton he has now driven in five runs on the season. In Anaheim, it is seventh inning stretch time and the Angels lead this one 7-3 over the Texas Rangers. Vladimir Guerrero is three for three so far with a homer and 4 RBI on the night. We will finish this game in the morning with a boxscore. In the meantime, let's look at a boxscore from one of the completed games from tonight. We will look at the Dodgers/Brewers in boxscore. Good night everyone.

Alright then, we left the Angels/Rangers game at the 7th inning stretch with the score 7-3. The Halos tacked on another run in the 7th inning on a Howie Kendrick RBI single that scored Shea Hillenbrand to make it 8-3. That would be your final out in Anaheim. Vicente Padilla was the starter and loser as he gave up 6 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings on 9 hits. As I said last night, Vladimir Guerrero was the start of this game as he ended up going 4 for 4 with a homer and 3 RBI. The winning pitcher Kelvim Escobar went 5 1/3 innings to earn his first win of the year. Final score Angels 8 - Rangers 3.

There is a FULL slate of games today which includes that Blue Jays in Comerica Park to take on the Detroit Tigers. Why would I point that game out??? Good question. Answer, Sadira and I will be attending the game in Detroit. So if you are in Detroit's Comerica Park, come on out and say hello. I will report on the full slate of games later and give you a feel of Comerica Park. Until then, if we don't see you at the ballpark, we hope to see you right back out here. Here is the late game in boxscore form and have a great day everyone.

Game Notes

THE START OF THE GAME IS BEING DELAYED DUE TO CEREMONIES.

Well it was fridged in Comerica Park in Detroit but the game continued to be played. In the second inning, I caught a foul ball in flight off the bat of Toronto Blue Jays Alex Rios. My hand stung for three innings. Speaking of three, the Tigers sent 12 men to the plate in the third inning and scored 8 runs off of A.J. Burnett and Jason Marcum as the Tigers defeated the Blue Jays 10-9. The third inning scoring was capped a Curtis Granderson grand slam homerun ( his first slam of his career ). The Blue Jays frantically tried to come back with 7 runs in the 8th inning but it was Todd Jones who shut the door in the ninth to pick up his first save of the year. One note the hot dogs at Comerica are MUCH better than the Dodger Dogs. If you are Los Angeles for a Dodgers game stay away from the Dodger Dogs unless you like the idea of being sick. The final from Comerica, Tigers 10- Blue Jays 9. In New York, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the New York Yankees were postponed due to rain. No make-up date has been announced. In Chicago, Jim Thome opened the scoring with a three run blast and Tadahito Iguchi blasted a two run bomb but it was the Indians who won the game and not the hometown heroes. Victor Martinez contributed with a 4 for 4 day with 2 RBI and Grady Sizemore hit a two run homer in the seventh and the Indians outlasted the White Sox 8-7. In Anaheim, the Angels score four in the first and that was all that Ervin Santana would need as the Angels as they swept the Texas Rangers by the final score of 5-3. Santana went 7 innings and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6. Angels sweep the Rangers. In Kansas City the Red Sox blasted the Royals 7-1. Kevin Youkilis hit a 2 run homer and Julio Lugo chipped in with 2 RBI in support of Josh Beckett. The Red Sox win their first of the season as they beat Kansas City 7-1. In Minnesota, Luis Castillo, Michael Cuddyer and Rondell White drove in two runs a piece as the Twins finished off a three game sweep of the Orioles 7-2. For the Baltimore Orioles it is the first time that have been 0-3 to start the season since 1995. Ramon Ortiz won it and Jaret Wright lost it. Twins beat Baltimore 7-2. In Seattle, Oakland's Mark Ellis hit a base-loaded double and then drove a two run double as the A's win for the first time this year in a 9-0 blowout. Rich Harden was the easy winner going 7 strong innings giving up just 3 hits. The Mariners shutout 9-0 by Oakland.

In the National League, in our Nation's Capital the Marlins blew a 5-0 and 6-1 leads and fell to the Nationals 7-6. Jorge Julio allowed three run to score in the bottom of the ninth in just 1/3 innings to blow the save and the game for the Marlins. Dmitri Young had the game winning hit on a long fly ball that was allowed to drop by the left fielder in hopes it would go foul. For Young his hit gave the Nationals and Manny Acta their first victory of the season. In Colorado, the Rockies scored 7 runs in their half of the 8th inning breaking open a 4-2 game. Matt Holiday went 4 for 5 with 4 RBI. For the Rockies it is their second straight win. Rodrigo Lopez picks up his first victory for the Rockies as he came over from the Orioles organization. The final score the Rockies 11- the Diamondbacks 4. Atlanta got a game tying two run homerun off the bat of Brian McCann against Tom Gorman and then in the 11th inning rookie Scott Thorman blasted the game winning off of reliever Ryan Madison to give the Braves a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. The wild finish negated great starting perfomances by Tim Hudson for the Braves who went 7 innings striking out 5 and giving up 2 hits and one run. And also the performance of Cole Hamels who gave up no runs on 4 hits while striking out 8 batters. Braves win a wild one in Philadelphia 3-2. In Cincinnati, the Cubs got a brilliant pitching performance from Ted Lilly who gave up one run on three hit and struck out 9 to help pitch the Cubs to a 4-1 over the Reds. Aramis Ramirez went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and Mark DeRosa drove in two. Bronson Arroyo struck out 9 Cubs but allowed four runs over 7 innings. Cubs win 4-1. In Milwaukee, Jason Schmidt started to earn his overblown contract by going 5 ( only 5 ) innings allowing one run on three hits and walking 3 as the Dodgers held on for dear life to get their first win of the season. Olemdo Saenz hit a two run double in the 8th inning which proved to be the difference in the game. At the time of the double it gave the Dodgers a 5-1 cushion. Takashi Saito pitched 1 2/3 innings to earn the save. The Dodgers beat the Brewers in Milwaukee 5-4. In Houston, Pittsburgh completed the three game sweep of the Astros beating Houston 5-4. Jose Bautista went 3 for 5 and drove in 3 runs as the Pirates knock off the Astros 5-4. In St.Louis, the Champions got swept by the Mets. John Maine started and went 7 innings giving up only one hit. Braden Looper started for the Cardinals gave up only 3 runs in 6 innings in hit first Major League start. But it was the Cardinals bullpen who let this game get out of hand and allowed the Mets to cruise to a 10-0 victory. Carlos Beltran clobbered 2 homeruns in this game and Jose Reyes added a solo homer. Mets sweep the Cardinals 10-0 and that sent 45,423 crying in their Budweiser. In San Francisco, Marcus Giles and Adrian Gonzalez had six of the Padres 8 hits including a homerun a piece and drove in 4 of the Padres 5 runs as the Padres beat the Giants 5-3. The outburst by these two offset Barry Bonds 1st homerun of the year. Padres beat the Giants 5-3. They go for the sweep later today. That is a look at the Major League games. Now let's take a look at one of the boxscores as we say good night.

Today and tonight we had nine games on tap. One of those nine games, Toronto at Detroit was postponed due to bad weather. The game will be made up on September 10th at 7:05pm. In other games, the Kansas City Royals helped the debut of Daisuke Matsuzaka of the Boston Red Sox. Matsuzaka allowed a single to his first batter David DeJesus and also allowed a homer in the sixth inning to DeJesus. Other than that, Matsuzaka allowed a total of 6 hits in 7 innings and struck out 10 as the Red Sox beat the Royals 4-1. Zach Greinke was the hard luck loser as he went 7 innings striking out 7 and allowing one earned run. Greinke returning from a season filled with personal problems and issues matched Matsuzaka pitch for pitch. Manny Ramirez went 2 for 5 with an RBI as the Red Sox beat the Royals 4-1. In the Windy City, A.J. Pierzynski never though getting hit by a pitch could feel so good. Indians reliever Roberto Hernandez hit Pierzynski in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded to force in pinch runner Rob Mackowiak with the winning run as the White Sox got their first win of the year beating the Indians 4-3. Paul Konerko, Tadahito Iguchi and Scott Podsednik each drove in runs for the winning Sox. The Indians got homers Grady Sizemore and Jason Michaels. The Indians dropped to 2-1 and now go home to host Seattle and the White Sox await division rivals Minnesota to come to Chicago. In New York the Yankees played the Devil Rays and were beaten 7-6. The Yankees committed 3 errors and left 10 men on base including 6 of them in scoring position. The Yankees who got great work from their bullpen on Monday had gotten poor work from their pen as they pitched five innings giving up three runs on six hits while walking three. The Yankees now get the Baltimore Orioles while Tampa Bay goes home to face the Toronto Blue Jays. In Anaheim, the Angels Vladimir Guerrero and Garrett Anderson went back to back on homeruns in the bottom of the fourth. But it was the power of former Dodger Mike Piazza that put the Athletics over the top. Mike Piazza went three for five including an opposite field homerun in the top of the ninth off premier reliever Francisco Rodriguez that gave the A's a 4-3 victory. For the future Hall of Famer it was Piazza's 420th career homerun. This is the start of a four game series for these two rivals to which game one goes to Oakland 4-3.

In the National League, there was four games played. First one was in Cincinnati between the Reds and the Cubs. The much improved Cubs need to improve more as they were beaten by the Reds 5-2. The Cubs got great starting pitching from Jason Marquis but their bullpen gave away the game with wild pitches and a fat pitch served up by Scott Eyre to Scott Hatteberg that allowed the Reds to put the game away in the 8th inning. The Reds will play the 3-0 Pirates at home and the Cubs head to Milwaukee to finish up their six game road trip before they go home for the first time this year. In Philadelphia, Jim Rollins stated in the off-season that it was the Phillies that were the team to beat. Well the Braves took that to heart and swept away the Phillies beat them in the series finale 8-4. Brian McCann hit a two single in the 1st and Kelly johnson then started a 6 run fourth with a 2 run homer and the inning was capped when Scott Thorman doubled in the final two runs of the inning. That gave the Braves an 8-1 lead. The Braves now go home to take on the 3-0 Mets and the Phillies go to Florida to take on the Marlins. The final in a non-competitive game Braves 8- Phillies 4. In washington, the Diamondbacks came to town and came away with a 4-3 win. Chris Young had a 2 run single in the first and Orlando Hudson drove a long homer to straight away center to give Arizona an early 4-0 lead. The Nationals chipped away but were unable to pull themselves completely out of the 4-0 and fell short 4-3. Edgar Gonzalez struck out 7 in 5 innings picked up the win. In San Francisco the Giants avoided being swept by the Padres by beating San Diego 5-3. Matt Morris went 6 innings in this game as he picked up his first win of the year and his 112th career win. The Giants Ray Durham had a 2 run single and scored a run to pace the Giants to their first win of the season. There is a full slate of game this weekend. So follow your favorite teams and report about it. Now let's look at one of the boxscores from Thursday's games. Have a great weekend everyone. :wavingguy

I will start in the American League where Boston was in Texas to play the Rangers. This was an outstandingly pitched game by both Tim Wakefield ( 6 Innings, 3 hits, 1 Earned run and 4 K's ) and Rangers starter Robinson Tejeda ( 7 innings, 3 hits, no runs and 1 K ). But it was the excuse me swing basehit off the bat of Sammy Sosa that gave the Rangers all the run support they would need as the Rangers won their home opener 2-0. Akinori Otsuka threw a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the year. In Cleveland, the Indians took a 4-0 lead into the fifth on the Seattle Mariners and then they decided there was too much snow to deal with this game and it was postponed. The game will be made up on Saturday as part of a day/night doubleheader first game is schedule to go a 1:05 EDT Bad news in this game though as catcher Victor Martinez was injuried while running the bases. In Yankee Stadium, the Bombers met up with the winless Orioles and found themselves on the wrong of a 6-4 game. Nick Markakis went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and scored a run to help pace the Orioles 9 hit attack and send the Yankees to their second straight defeat. The clutch hit continues to elude the Yankees as they left 10 more men on base include 8 of them in scoring position. Mike Mussina pitched poorly as he went only 4 innings giving up 6 runs on 8 hits. The Yankees starting staff has now pitched only 12 1/3 innings in 3 games. The Yankees are now 1-2 and host the Orioles later today. Yankees lose 6-4. In Tampa Bay, the Devil Rays opened up their home season with a come from behind victory over the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5. Tampa Bay hit 4 homeruns in this game. They got homeruns from Ty Wiggington, B.J. Upton, Akinori Iwamura ( who was 4 for 4 and 2 runs scored ) and a two run homerun from Delmon Young in the bottom of the ninth. B.J. Ryan blew the save and lost the game for the Blue Jays when he gave up an RBI single to B.J. Upton. In Chicago the White Sox and Twins were postponed because of cold weather. Ther is no make-up game announced at this time. Stay tuned and we will ley you know when the make-up date will be. In Kansas City, The Royals got their second win of the year as they be the Detroit Tigers 3-1. The Royals got to Jose Mesa in the seventh inning as they scored two runs off of Mesa in 1/3 inning. Justin Verlander went the first 6 giving up 2 hits and a run. Verlander got the no decision. Jorge De La Rosa went 7 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits for the win. David Riske finished the game for his first save of the season. In Anaheim, the Angels got long balls off the bats of Howie Kendrick and a three run blast from Vladimir Guerrero and that paced the Angels to a 5-2 victory over the A's. The win evens up this series 1 game to 1. Dustin Moseley picked up the win and Francisco Rodriguez earned his third save of the young season.

In the National League, Arizona clobbered the Nationals 7-1. Chris Young hit a three run homer and drove in 4 as the Diamondbacks are now 3-2 on the young season. Micah Owings made his Major League debut picked up the win going 5 innings giving up 1 hit and striking out 6. Jerome Williams gave up 4 earned runs in 6 innings and struck out 4. This series continues again on Saturday in Washington. Philadelphia after being swept at home bounced back off the deck and went to Florida and beat the Marlins 8-2. Pat Burrell went 2 for 4 with a three run homer and drove in 4 to help pace the Phillies attack. Jimmy Rollins powered up a two run homer as the Phillies beat the Marlins 8-2. Jamie Moyer went 6 2/3 innings and earned his and the Phillies first win this season. In the Queen City, the Reds knocked the Pirates from the ranks of the unbeaten as they clubbed Pittsburgh 6-1. Brandon Phillips hit a solo homer in the first and 40 year old Jeff Conine hit a 3 run homer in the third and the Reds never looked back. Matt Belisle earned his 8th career victory and now the Reds are 3-1 on this young season. In Atlanta, there was history before a first pitch was ever thrown. This is the first time since 1894 that two teams in the National League matched that were 3-0 at the start of the year. So that being said, who had the edge??? The Braves were playing at home for the first time this year and of course you get your opening day crowd of over 51,000 fans. Edge Braves??? Then the game started and Jose Reyes hits 2 triples and gets 3 hits and drives in 4. Mets in a blowout 11-1. Oliver Perez went 7 inning giving up one run on five hits. He struck out 6 and walked nobody. That is the first time since 2002 that Oliver Perez won a game without walking a batter. Mets move into first by themselves and Atlanta drops to 3-1. Today, Tom Glavine vs. John Smoltz in Atlanta. In Houston, the Astros continue to struggle as the Cardinals came to town last night. The Cardinals and Astros both winless coming into action. But in the third inning Adam Wainwright the Cardinals starter ( and eventual winner ) doubled in the Cardinals first run of the game with a long double to center. Then scored himself on Chris Duncan's two run dinger and that would be all that Wainwright would need from Duncan ( who was 3 for 4 ) and the Cardinals offense. Wainwright went 7 innings surrendering 5 hits and 1 run while striking out 4. Jason Isringhausen came in cleaned up for his first save of the year. Final from Houston, Cardinals 4- Astros 2. In Milwaukee, Cliff Floyd drove home a couple of runs on long doubles and Mark DeRosa and Ronny Cedeno homered for the Cubs to pace a 13 hit attack as the Cubbies pounded on the Brewers 9-3. Rich Hill was fabulous pitching 7 strong innings giving up only one hit while striking out six. The one hit was a homerun by Corey Hart in the sixth inning. Cubs win Cubs win. In San Diego, Kaz Matsui went 3 for 4 with an RBI triple and a run scored and Matt Holliday hit a booming 2 run homer as the Rockies beat the Padres 4-3. Jason Hirsh went 6 2/3 innings giving 6 hits and striking out 8. The starter and loser for the Padres was Greg Maddux who went 5 1/3 while giving up all 4 runs. Rockies beat the Padres 4-3. In San Francisco, the Dodgers came to town for friendly little get together. And the Dodgers Brad Penny kept pitching himself in and out of trouble as Penny gave up 10 hits in 7 innings. Nick Lowry gave up two runs in seven innings and the Dodgers won a nail-biter 2-1. Takashi Saito picked up his second save giving up 2 hits and no runs. The final score in San Francisco the Dodgers 2- the Giants 1. Here is a look back of one of the games in boxscore. Also a programming note, the Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians Day/Night doubleheader has been postponed due to snow. They will try to make up one of games tomorrow as part of another day/night doubleheader and reschedule the other game later this season. Enjoy your Saturday everyone.

Recapping the day's action in the American League. The Mariners will play a traditional doubleheader in Cleveland provided the weather cooperates. In New York, Jason Giambi got the Yankees to within 7-6 with a 3 run eighth inning homerun and with two outs in the bottom of the ninth Alex Rodriguez capped a 3 for 4 day with a walk-off game-winning grandslam homerun. Rodriguez drove in 6 runs on the day. The hero prior to Rodriguez homer was Melvin Mora of the Orioles who had was 2 for 5 with a 2 run homer and a 3 run double accounting for 5 of the Orioles 7 runs. Kei Igawa was clobbered in 5 innings for 7 runs on 8 hits and he walked 3 batters. With Rodriguez homer it was his 466th of his career and it gave Orioles starter Steve Trachsel a no-decision. Trachsel went 6 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits. In Kansas City, the Tigers played long ball in 29 degree weather. Gary Sheffield, Ivan Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson all hit homeruns and Sheffield and Granderson drove in two runs each as the Tigers held off the Royals 6-5. Mike Maroth coming off of elbow surgery went 5 innings giving up 4 runs. He got the win as Jason Grilli ( 1 inning ), Joel Zumaya ( 2 innings ) and Todd Jones ( 1 inning and his 2nd save ) cleaned up. Reggie Sanders ( had 3 hits and 2 RBI ) and Esteban Germán ( had 2 hits and 2 RBI ) were the offensive stars for the Royals. Tigers win 6-5. In the Windy City, Paul Konerko's RBI single in the first inning off of losing pitcher Carlos Silva was enough run support for Javier Vázquez who was brilliant in holding the Twins to just 1 hit over 6 2/3 innings. For the Twins it was their first loss of the year. In Tampa Bay, the Toronto Blue Jays got a big hit off the bat of Frank Thomas and rode that to an 8-5 victory. Toronto who had a 2-1 when Thomas came to bat in the 2nd inning and Frank Thomas smashed a grandslam homerun to give the Blue Jays a lead they would never give up. Casey Fossum could not get out of the 4th inning for Tampa Bay as he went 3 2/3 giving up 7 runs. He took the loss and now Tampa is 2-2 on this young season. In Texas, the Rangers hammered the Red Sox 8-4. Sammy Sosa hit homerun #1 on the season and his 589th homer of his career. Sosa was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI. Nelson Cruz also chipped in with 2 hits and 3 RBI. Kevin Millwood picked up the win going 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 8 hits. Rangers beat the Red Sox 8-4. In Anaheim, a classic pitcher's duel as Dan Haren lost his second game of the season though he gave up only 1 earned run in 7 innings. Haren's defense has let him down as he has now given up 5 unearned runs on the season. John Lackey was a little more fortunate as his defense did not hurt him as Lackey gave up 1 run over the same seven innings. the Angels on an error Marco Scutaro beat the A's 2-1.

In the National League, the Reds defeated the Pirates 7-5. Aaron Harang picked up the win for the Reds with an uninspiring effort as he went 5 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 8 hits. Edwin Encarnación was the star for the Reds with 3 hits and 2 RBI. Adam Dunn also contributed as he hit another homerun his third of the season and drove in 2 runs. The Reds now are in firt place with a 4-1 record. In Milwaukee, the Cubs won their second straight as they beat the Brewers 6-3. Aramis Ramirez hit a two run homerun ( his 1st of the year ) and Derek Lee went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Carlos Zambrano who also drove in a run picked up the victory going 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. Cubs win 6-3. In San Francisco, the Dodgers won their second straight from the Giants as they beat their arch-rivals 4-1. Jeff Kent had a two-run double to help provide support for Derek Lowe who was the star of this game giving up 1 run on 4 hits over 7 innings. Lowe lowered his ERA from 13.50 to 5.73. It was his first win of this young season. Dodgers beat the Giants in San Fran 4-1. In Atlanta, the Braves even this series as the battle of Smoltz versus Glavine was not nearly awe inspiring. The Braves beat the Mets 5-3. But it was a sloppy game by the Mets and the Braves took advantage. Neither pitcher was sharp as they both worked really hard to get their pitches in today. Smoltz picked up his 194th career win working 6 innings walking 4 batters and gave up 7 hits and 2 runs. Glavine lost labored through 5 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs but only 2 earned and he walked 3 and gave up 4 hits. Braves move into a tie with the Mets for 1st place in the East with a 4-1 mark. Boxscore on this game at the end. In Florida, Dontrell Willis won his 2nd game of the season going 6 innings and striking out 9 as the Marlins beat the Phillies 8-5. Josh Willingham doubled, tripled and homered in four at bats. He drove in 4 runs as Willingham was the offensive star of the game. Jimmy Rollins hit an inside the park homer and drove in 3 runs in the losing effort. In Washington, the story is the same as it was before. The Nationals are not able to get out of their own way and Manny Acta probably wishes he was still a Mets coach. The Nationals were beaten again at home 7-1. Brandon Webb went 7 innings giving up 1 run on 7 hits while striking out 8 batters. Tony Clark was 3 for 4 with a run scored and a run driven in. Eric Byrnes had 2 hits including his 2nd homer of the season. Diamondbacks beat the Nationals 7-1. Hey, in Houston the Astros won a game. They beat the Cardinals 5-1. Roy Oswalt a complete game 5 hitter as he struck out 4. Carlos Lee helped Oswalt offensively as he went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI including his first homerun of the year. Both teams are now 1-4 and in the basement of the NL Central. In the top of the seventh inning in San Diego, it is the Rockies 2 and the Padres 1. When that game comes to a conclusion ( if I am still up ) I will update it. We will look at the Mets/Braves boxscore from this afternoon. Have a great night everyone. :imouttahe

There is a final in San Diego as the Padres came from behind to defeat the Colorado Rockies 3-2. Adrián González had a sac fly in the seventh inning to knot the game at 2. In the ninth inning Gonzalez struck again clobbering a long double chasing Jose Cruz Jr. home from second base with the winning run. For the Padres they earned their third win of the season and snapped a 2 game skid. David Wells started for the Padres and got a no-decision in this contest. Wells came out in the seventh with 2 outs after giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out 4. Jason Fogg also earned an ND as he went 6 1/3 giving up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3. Here is how this game looks in the boxscore.

Thanks for featuring the Dodger victory in today's post by giving the box score. Obviously, I was overjoyed at the sweep. :bouncybou

Naturally Milagros. I figured you might have an interest in that boxscore. But if you notice, I have been very random.

Yesterday there was 15 games on tap. We will as per usual start in the American League. And as per usual ( at least for the first week of the season ) there were postponed games. In Cleveland ( and for those who complain about your cold weather shut up ) the Indians and the Seattle Mariners were snowed out of their doubleheader for the third straight day. It has snowed so bad in Cleveland that the Indians will play host to the Los Angeles Angels in Milwaukee this week. The four game series will be made up as the year moves along. We will keep you informed. The Indians and Mariners snowed out.
In Baltimore, the Orioles fresh off of a 2 out of 3 from the Yankees came home for the first time this season and derailed the Detroit Tigers 6-2. Daniel Cabrera went 7 2/3 innings giving up only 2 runs on 7 hits. He struck out 5. Brian Roberts, Melvin Mora and Miguel Tejada combined for 6 hits and three RBI as the Orioles rip the Tigers 6-2.
In Minnesota, the Twins played gracious host to the Yankees as the Yankees clobbered the Twins 8-2. Carl Pavano ( a name more associated with the disabled list ) went 7 strong innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits walking no one and striking out 2. Pavano's excellent performance was backed up by Bobby Abreu who went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI. Alex Rodriguez also hit his 5th homer of the season and Derek Jeter chipped in with 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Yankees 8- Twins 2.
In Toronto, the Royals were smashed by the Blue Jays 9-1. Aaron Hill went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Lyle Overbay had 3 RBI and A.J. Burnett pulled in his first victory of the season holding the Royals to 3 hits over 6 2/3 innings. Toronto, for the moments hold down the top spot in the East, has now won 3 straight games.
In Arlington, Texas the Rangers exploded for 6 runs in the 6th and downed the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 8-4. Ian Kinsler backed up Brandon McCarthy with 4 hits and 2 RBI. McCarthy went the first 6 innings giving up 5 hits and 2 runs while striking out 5. Carl Crawford hit a two run homer in the loss for Tampa Bay.
In Oakland, José Contreras gave up a run on 4 hits in 6 innings and got pop from Jim Thome ( 3 for 4 with 2 RBI ) and Scott Podsednik as the White Sox beat the Athletics 4-1. Rich Harden who gave up 2 runs on 5 hits over 6 innings took the loss for Oakland.

In the National League:
At Shea Stadium in Flushing Meadows, the New York Mets played host to the Philadelphia Phillies. Jimmy Rollins of the Phillies stirred the pot in the off-season proclaimimg that the Phillies were, in fact, the team to beat. Rollins had a chance to back that up. And on Ryan Howard's three run homer off of reliever Ambiorix Burgos, it was looking like that might be. But then an error by Rollins himself opened the door to a seven run 8th inning and the Mets destroyed the Phillies 11-5. Carlos Delgado, David Wright, Moises Alou and Jose Valentin combine for 8 RBI ( 2 each ) as the Mets dropped the Phillies ( the team to beat ) to 1-6. In the meanwhile, the Mets are 5-2 on the season.
Mets beat-up the Phillies 11-5.
In Pittsburgh, Braden Looper held the Pirates to just 2 hits over 7 innings as he picked up his Major League win as a starter as the Cardinals shutout the Pirates 3-0. Looper, a closer for most of his career, was converted to a starter by manager Tony LaRussa this season has gotten two great performances from Looper. Looper is now 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA. Preston Wilson had a 2 run double to help Looper to his first victory as a starter. Ian Snell went 7 innings as well gave up only one run on 6 hits as he earned a tough loss. Cardinals 3- Pirates 0.
In Chicago, the Cubs played gracious host ( as usual ) as the Astros came in from Houston losers of 5 of their first six and they beat the Cubs 5-3. With the score tied at three, Bobby Howry gave up a 2 run blast to light-hitting Adam Everett as that was the deal breaker for the Cubs. The astros beat the Cubs 5-3.
In Los Angeles, the Rockies gave Todd Helton the day off and Jeff Baker his understudy went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Garrett Atkins had 3 RBI as the Rockies knocked off the Dodgers 6-3. The Dodgers overpaid starter Jason Schmidt hit a homer then later was pulled from the game after giving up four runs and from there was placed on the disabled list. $ 47,000,000 just doesn't buy what it use too :yowzer: . Dodgers fall to the Rockies 6-3.
In Florida, the Marlins beat the Brewers 5-3. Miguel Cabrera had a homer and 3 RBI. With the 3 RBI, Cabrera now has 11 on the young season. Anibal Sánchez was the winner as he went 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 8 hits. Marlins improve their record to 5-2 while the Brew Crew drop to 3-4. Marlins 5- Brewers 3.
In Arizona, the Diamondbacks came away with a hard fought 3-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds took an early 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Alex Gonzalez and an RBI sac Fly by David Ross. But the Diamondbacks chipped away with runs in the sixth and seventh and then Orlando Hudson's long homerun to left field gave the Diamondbacks their margin of victory. The Diamondbacks lead the West with a 6-2 record and the Reds fall to 4-3.
Arizona 3- Cincinnati 2.
In San Diego, This was an incredible game. I was fortunate enough to watch this on San Diego's Cable 4 on the baseball package last night. Matt Cain for the Giants was brilliant giving up just 1 hit over seven innings of work. Chris Young was equal to the task as he allowed only 4 hits over 7 innings of work. The Padres snuck out the win when they got their only hit off of Cain. Khalil Greene hit a double down the left field line. Russell Branyan walked and Jose Cruz Jr laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt down the third baseline to advance runners to second and third. Then Geoff Blum hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the only run of the game. Trevor Hoffman came on in the ninth to close out a solid 1-0 victory for the Padres. The Giants drop to 1-6 in a hard fought didn't deserve to lose game and the Padres improve their record to 5-2 and trail the Diamondbacks by a half game. This will be the featured boxscore game ( though I did think of choosing my Mets game ) because it was a great game. For Tuesday there is 14 games on the schedule. Enjoy the games everyone. Have a great day.

Game Notes

SAN FRANCISCO PITCHER MATT CAIN HAS A NO-HITTER THROUGH SIX INNINGS.

THE DOUBLE BY SAN DIEGO'S KHALIL GREENE IN THE SEVENTH INNING ENDED MATT CAIN'S NO-HITTER

Results from April 10th,2007

We start in the American League:

In Boston Seattle coming off of a four game snowout was obviously not ready for this game. Jeff Weaver gave up 7 runs in 2 innings of work which inncluded a 50 pitch first inning. Weaver could not find the strike zone and did not find too many outs either. He gave up 7 hits and walked 2 batters in the 70 total pitches he threw. We was to a three ball count on the majority of the Red Sox hitters. Then J.D Drew hit a homer to dead center in the second inning capping of a three run rally and that spelled the end of Weaver and the Mariners. Red Sox blow out the Mariners 14-3.
In Baltimore, the Tigers Curtis Granderson hit 2 doubles and 2 runs scored and Placido Polanco had two hits and an RBI as the Tigers downed the Orioles 3-1. Nate Robertson pitch an excellent game giving up just 4 hits in 7 1/3 innings pitched striking out 5 and walking only one. Orioles Jared Wright left the game in the sixth inning giving up one earned run over 5 and striking out 5. Wright left the game with tightness in his right shoulder and will be reevaluated. Tigers beat the Orioles 3-1.
In Milwaukee, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim visited the Cleveland Indians of Milwaukee and the game finished with the rested team coming out on top. C.C.Sabathia went 7 innings and gave up 3 runs with only one run being earned as he earned his 2nd win of the year as the Indians beat the Angels 7-6. Ervin Santana was the starter and loser for the Angels as he gave up 6 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings while walking 4 batters. Andy Marte had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs and Kevin Shoppach ( who is in for the injuried Victor Martinez ) had 2 RBI in support of Sabathia. Howie Kendrick went 4 for 4 with three run scored in the losing effort. Over 19,000 fans showed up for this neutral site game necessitated by all the snow that dumped down in Cleveland.
In Toronto, the Royals took advantage of 4 Blue Jays errors as Kansas City beat Toronto 6-3. David DeJesus and Mark Grudzielanek had three hits each and rookie Alex Gordon hit his first Major League homerun run to aid in the victory. The win made a winner out of Zach Greinke for the first time as a starter since 2005. He won a game in 2006 as a relief pitcher but this is his first as a starter since 2005. Greinke was solid going 6 innings giving up one run on 6 hits and struck out 5. If Kansas City has any chance of proving their critics wrong this season they will need a big season out of this 23 year old right hander. This is a good start for Greinke and may he have many more. The Royals beat the mistake prone Blue Jays 6-3.
In Texas, the Rangers in a wild game beat the mistake riddled Tampa Bay Devil Rays 12-9. This will be the featured game in boxscore as it was a fantasy player's dream game and a managers nightmare. Rangers Kenny Lofton went 3 for 3 with a homer and 3 RBI and Frank Catalanotto went 3 for 5 with a homer and 4 RBI. Tampa Bay's Ty Wiggington went 3 for 4 hitting his second homerun of the season and had 4 RBI and Delmon Young went 3 for 5 hitting his second homerun and drove in 2 runs. This game made the ballpark look small and it played that way. Rangers beat the D'Rays 12-9.
In Minnesota, Boof got booped as Alex Rodriguez hit his 6th homer of the season and Johnny Damon went deep for a three run homer as the Yankees hammered the beleaguered Twins for the second straight day 10-1. Andy Pettitte was brilliant as he pitched 6 shutout innings allowing 4 hits and striking out three. Even seldom used Kevin Thompson got in on the act late as he doubled in a pair of runs with the bases loaded. The Yankees destroy the Twins 10-1.
In Oakland, the White Sox had a 1-0 in the ninth and Bobby Jenks ( 1-1 ) their closer coughed it up. Jenks gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and walked one intentionally as he absorbed the loss. The White Sox defense also committed an error in that ninth inning which also contributed to the loss. With Jenks meltdown it made a winner out of Huston Street who nailed his first win of the year. Oakland finds a way and beats the White Sox 2-1.

In the National League:
The Milwaukee Brewers and the Florida Marlins game was suspended because of rain. The score was tied a 2-2. Jorge Julio blew the save in the ninth as he gave up a long double to J.J. Hardy that chased home the tying run and sent this game into extra innings. There were three different rain delays in this game. First was 49 minutes long with rain and lightening and the second delay was 21 minutes. The third one was the one that ended up suspending the game and that was 32 minutes long. They will conclude this game before the start of their regularly scheduled game tonight. The scheduled game time is 7:05pm and you can catch on FSN Florida or FSN Wisconsin.
In Chicago, The Cubbies lost again. This time it was to a pitcher making his 4th career start. Chris Sampson allowed the Cubs 3 hits over 5 innings and got support from Luke Scott who drove in 3 runs as the Astros won their 2nd straight game over the Chicago Cubs 4-2. Jason Marquis ( one of the Cubs free agent pitcher's they got in the off-season ) walked 4 in 5 innings of work and allowed 4 hits. But also in Marquis defense his defense betrayed him ( actually it was Cesar Izturis ) as they commited three errors in the game. Cubs tried to rally in the ninth but it came up two runs short. Cubs lose 4-2.
In Pittsburgh, they need a little more time to decide this game as it went 12 innings. The Cardinals beat the Pirates and their bullpen by a final of 3-2. The Cardinals scored the tying runs on Salomon Torres with one out in the ninth on Scott Spiezio's 2 run single and then beat John Wasdin in the 12th inning on a Sac Fly off the bat of Skip Schumaker. The bullpen being beaten robbed
Tom Gorzelanny of his 2nd win of the season. Gorzelanny went 7 innings and gave up 4 hits and struck out 5 while walking nobody. The Pirates drop a tough one at home to the Cardinals 3-2 in 12.
In Atlanta, Andruw Jones hit a homerun in the 4th inning to give the Braves a 1-0 lead over the Nationals. You could turn your TV sets off right there as you know they are playing the Nationals. But if you did in fact turn the sets off then you would have missed Jeff Francoeur show. Francoeur hit a two run double and a three run homer as the Braves blasted the Nationals 8-0. With the win the Braves made a winner out of Tim Hudson who went 7 strong innings giving up 3 hits along the way while striking out 7. The Braves improve to 6-1 as they slug the Nationals 8-0.
In Arizona, the first 4 innings was homerun derby. First it was Adam Dunn for the Reds home hit a blast into the second deck for his fourth homerun of the year. Then later in the first, Chad Tracy clobbered a three run homer to give Arizona a 3-1 advantage. Then in the third inning, Josh Hamilton hit a two run homer to tie things up. Then Brandon Phillips said ' See Ya ' to the ball he hit to give the Reds a 4-3 lead. Then in the bottom of the fourth Chris Snyder answer with a homerun back and suddenly it was 4-4. It stayed there until the 11th inning when David Weathers served up a run scoring double to Scott Hairston to chase home Conor Jackson with the game winning run. Arizona 5- Cincinnati 4.
In San Diego, the Giants held off the Padres 6-5. Bengie Molina drove in two runs to help this Giants offense along and Barry Bonds drove in a run as well. But it was Adrian Gonzalez who single-handedly kept the Padres in the game as he hit 2 homeruns and drove in 4 runs. But it was the Giants that prevailed 6-5.
In Los Angeles, the Dodgers got a sac fly from Russell Martin in the bottom of the eight inning and then the Dodgers went to Takashi Saito to close the deal and he did just that. Saito earned his 4th save and gave the Dodgers their 5th win of the season. Nomar Garciaparra went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Dodgers. Brett Tomko went the first 6 innings giving up only one hit and striking out 9. Tomko got the no decision.
Those are the results for April 10th. Have a great day everyone. :Hyrdrogen

Hey buddy, This is great! Keep up the good work. My best to you and Amy. I love the way Rollins walked the walk. NOT!!

Results from April 11th

Since the National League had the earlier games, I will start there.

In Pittsburgh, the World Champion St.Louis Cardinals completed a three game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday afternoon defeating the Pirates 3-2. Chris Duncan played hero as he hit a pinch hit homerun with one out in the top of the ninth inning off of Salomon Torres ( 0-1 ) to snap a 2-2 tie. Ryan Franklin ( 1-0 ) picked up the win in relief as the Cardinals sweep the Pirates in Pittsburgh 3-2.
In Chicago, the Cubs did not lose as their game with the Astros was snowed out. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on July 12th after the All-Star Break. The Cubs and Astros were originally scheduled an 7:05pm CDT game will fit the rained out game in before that scheduled game.
In Florida, the Brewers and Marlins need 3 more innings to complete their suspended game as it took 13 innings for the Brewers to beat the Marlins 3-2. Rickie Weeks got the winning rally going by drawing a walk off of losing pitcher Renyel Pinto ( 0-1 ) he was sacrifice to second by Craig Counsell after J.J. Hardy groundout to move him to third Prince Fielder singled to right to give the Brewers their winning margin of victory. In the regular scheduled game, the Brewers defeated the Marlins 5-2. Rickie Weekes went 2 for 4 scored 3 runs and homered to drive in 2. J.J Hardy chipped in with 3 hits and drove in a run and the Brewers got a very good pitching performance from Dave Bush who gave up one run in six innings and struck out 5. Brewers improve to 5-4 with the 2 wins and the Marlins drop to 4-4.
In New York, the Phillies received 7 walks from starter and loser Oliver Perez in 2 2/3 innings as the Mets were beaten 5-2. Perez after a quick first inning lost his control and the Phillies took full advantage. The Phillies only got one hit off of Perez but that did not matter as Perez provide all the clutch the Phillies would need. In total the Mets staff walked 11 batters and the Phillies "walked" away with a 5-2 win. The Phillies run their record to 2-6 and the Mets drop to 5-3.
In Atlanta, the Jones boys were doing their thing again as the Nationals are well on their way to losing 110 games. Chipper Jones in the first inning clobbered a two run homer to provide the Braves a quick 2-0 lead. Then in the seventh inning Andruw Jones clubbed a three run homer to give the Braves a 5-0 advantage. The Nationals showed some fight as they got back to within 5-3 in their top half of the eighth but then the Braves laid the hammer down scoring three more in the bottom of the eighth on Kelly Johnson's two run double and Edgar Renteria's RBI single. Chris James went the first 6 innings for Atlanta secured his 2nd win of the year. Jerome Williams went the first 5 innings for Washington giving up only the run homer to Chipper Jones took his second loss of the season. Atlanta is now 7-1 and is off to their best start since 1995 when they won the World Series against Cleveland.
In Arizona Javier Valentin drove in 2 runs with a double in the 7th inning and Josh Hamilton hit a homerun in the 8th to give the Reds a 3-1 lead over Arizona and that provided the Reds enough run support on this night to give the Reds a 3-2 victory over the Diamondbacks. For Arizona it is only their 3rd loss in 10 games and the Reds went back over the .500 mark at 5-4. Matt Belisle went the first 6 innings giving up one run on three hits as he earned his 2nd win of the year. Micah Owings went 6 1/3 gave up 2 runs on 7 hits took his first loss of the year as he is 1-1. Reds beat Arizona 3-2.
In San Diego, Greg Maddux went 6 innings, gave up 6 hits and struck out 6 and nailed down his 1st win of the season and his 334th career victory as the Padres shutout the Giants for the second time in this series, beating them 4-0. Barry Bonds went 0 for 4 is now hitting .192. Marcus Giles went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI as the Padres now head to Chicago to take on the Cubs. The Padres are now 6-3 and the Giants are now 2-7. Padres win 4-0.
In Los Angeles, Nomar Garciaparra hit a two run double and then Jeff Kent singled him in the 3rd inning as the Dodgers beat the Rockies 3-0. Brad Penny claimed his second win of the season and lowered his ERA 0.68 as he went 6 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and walking 4 and striking out 3. Takashi Saito picked up his 5th save with a scoreless ninth. Dodgers improve to 6-3 as they beat the Rockies 3-0.

In the American League,
In Oakland, the White Sox came from 3-0 down to beat the A's 6-3. Jermaine Dye who has struggled early on hit a 2 run blast in the top of the 8th to get this game even at 3-3. Then the White Sox took advantage of control problems by Huston Street as he walked three and then the big hit off of Paul Konerko's bat, a two run double, gave the White Sox a 6-3 lead. Nothing to do with the game itself, for those of you that are in fact White Sox fans, wasn't it fun to listen to a game without Ken " Hawk " Harrleson??? These three games were VERY good games to listen to with Darrin Jackson ( I believe that is his name ) and " Black Jack " Jack McDowell calling the games. I found myself gravitating to the broadcasts because they were talking about baseball and being fair in their analysis. A very good job by D.J and Jack. I hope they work together more often. The White Sox defeat the A's 6-3.
In Boston, Daisuke Matsuzaka was good but Felix Hernandez was unbelievable. Matsuzaka gave up 3 runs on 8 hits over 7 innings which most nights would be more than enough to win. But Hernandez had a no-hitter going into the eighth inning before J.D. Drew ended it with a single. Hernandez allowed nothing more and struck out 6. Hernandez is now 2-0 and has pitched 17 innings and has 18 strikeouts this season. Matsuzaka took his 1st loss in the Major Leagues and he drops to 1-1. Seattle shuts out the Red Sox 3-0.
In Baltimore, the Orioles and the Tigers played 12 innings before settling on a victor. That victor was the Tigers. It took one swing of the bat from Craig Monroe. Monroe hit a Grand Slam homerun in the 12th inning off of Kurt Birkins as the Tigers beat the Orioles 4-1. Both of these teams had many opportunities as they left 24 men on base ( 13 by the Tigers ). Craig Monroe's slam made a winner out of reliever Wilfredo Ledezma who gave up one hit in 2 innings of work while striking out 3. Tigers beat the O's 4-1.
In Milwaukee, the Angels used solid pitching Joe Saunders and got solid bullpen work as the Angels beat Cleveland 4-1. Jake Westbrook ( 0-1 ) went the first 6 for the Tribe giving up 2 earned runs while his counterpart Joe Saunders went 6 1/3 giving up one run on 4 hits. For Saunders it was his first win of the year. Francisco Rodríguez earned his 4th save of the year.
In Toronto, the Blue Jays took the rubber game of the series as the Jays beat the Royals 7-4. Aaron Hill went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and made a winner out of Gustavo Chacín who earned his 1st win of the year going 5 innings and giving up 3 runs. B.J. Ryan picked up his 3rd save of the year as the Blue Jays beat the Royals 7-4.
In Texas, the Devil Rays beat the Rangers 6-5. Carlos Pena had a 2 run homerun in the third to cap a 4 run rally and give the D'Rays a 6-1 lead. Ben Zobrist also contributed a homer ( 1st ) and scored 2 runs as the D'Rays salvaged a game in Texas. Winning pitcher was James Shields who went the first 7 innings to earn his 1st of the year.
In Minnesota, the Twins beat the Yankees 5-1. No, Alex Rodriguez did not hit a homerun but he did drive in the only Yankees run which is his 16th RBI this season. The Twins received two run scoring singles from Michael Cuddyer and laid the rest of this game on the right arm of Ramón Ortiz who allowed the Yankees only 3 hits through 8 innings. For Ortiz it was his 2nd win of the young season and Joe Nathan picked up one inning of work in the ninth and it was not a save situation. The Twins beat the Yankees 5-1.
Enjoy the Games as we look back at the boxscore of the day!!!

Remarkable start for Brad Penny. I'm hoping he has many more of them. 😀

Results for April 12th games.

There was only 7 games on the schedule and as it has been for the last 8 days, there was a game postponed because of rain.

In the American League,
In Milwaukee, the Indians used a homer by Grady Sizemore and a 3 run blast from Travis Hafner to lift the Indians to a " home " win over the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels/Indians series drew 52,499 fans for the three game set in Milwaukee. The Indians beat the Angels by the final count of 4-2. Aaron Fultz got his second win in relief of Jeremy Sower who went the first 7 innings giving up only one run on 6 hits and struck out 3. The Angels drop to 6-4 while the Indians improved to 4-2.
In Boston, the Seattle Mariners and the Boston Red Sox were postponed because of rain. The game has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 3rd at 7:05pm EDT. But with this game being fitted in, the home game between the Chicago White Sox and the Seattle Mariners in Seattle on May 2nd at 10:05pm EDT has been rescheduled to 3:05pm EDT. Have you got that??? Good. The Mariners are will to play in all dome stadiums.
In Baltimore, the Orioles needed 10 innings to beat the Kansas City Royals 2-1. Jay Gibbons who had three hits on the day drove in the winning run with an RBI single with 2 outs in the 10th inning. Chris Ray wins the game in relief. The starters for the teams both ended up with no-decisions. Gil Meche for the Royals went 6 innings gave up 7 hits, no runs, while striking out 5. The Orioles, Steve Trachsel went 7 innings giving up only 1 run on 3 hits. For Trachsel it is his second no decision as he has no record this season. The Orioles got their 4th win against 6 losses and the Royals dropped to 3-7. Orioles upend the Royals in 10.
In Toronto, the Tigers got a big lift from struggling Brandon Inge as the Tigers beat the Blue Jays 5-4. Inge was hitting .040 on 1 for 25 for the season when the game began. In the American League
In Cleveland, the Indians got only one hit in the game, but that was more than enough as the Indians beat the Chicago White Sox in the rain on Sunday afternoon. The Indians took advantage of José Contreras ( 1-2 ) wildness and took advantage of three White Sox errors to lead the Indians to victory. C.C. Sabathia ( 3-0 ) earned his third victory going 8 innings and allowing the Sox only one run on five hits while he struck out 10 batters. Indians down the White Sox 2-1.

In Toronto, Josh Towers pitched an outstanding game for 7 2/3 innings before giving the game away to his bullpen and grabbed his first win of the season as the Blue Jays beat the Tigers 2-1. The Tigers got a well pitched game from Nate Robertson ( 1-2 ) who absorbed his first loss of the season. Adam Lind and John McDonald drove in the Blue Jays only runs of the game. Toronto nips Detroit 2-1.

Alex Rodriguez drove in his 18th run of the season in a losing effort. The Yankees are now 5-6 on the year.

In Seattle, the Mariners used the long ball to club the Texas Rangers 14-6. The Mariners got 2 homeruns from Jose Vidro ( 2nd ) and 4 RBI, Adrián Béltre hit a homerun ( 2nd ) and drove in 4 runs and Ichiro Suzuki had four hits including his first homerun of the year to pace the Mariners offense. All the offense made a winner of Horacio Ramírez ( 1-0 ) who gave up only one earned run in 6 innings of work.

In the National League,
In Atlanta, the Braves got a three run homer from Chipper Jones ( 3rd ) and a two run homer from Andruw Jones ( 2nd ) to help pace a nine hit attack and lead the Braves to beat the Marlins 8-4. Tim Hudson ( 2-0 ) pitched a great game going 7 innings and giving up only one run. Braves improve to 8-3 and the Marlins drop to 6-5. Braves beat the Marlins 8-4.

In St.Louis, the Cardinals got 2 homeruns and 5 RBI from #42 Albert Pujols as the Cardinals smashed the Milwaukee Brewers 10-2. Pujols hit a three run blast in the first inning, then hit a solo homerun to finish the scoring for the Cardinals. In between, Chris Duncan hit his 3rd homerun in the fifth inning. The offensive attack made a winner out of Braden Looper who is now 2-1 on the year. The Cardinals earned their first victory at home this season as they beat the Brewers 10-2.

In Chicago, there was a pitchers duel between Ted Lilly ( 1-1 ) of the Cubs and Kyle Lohse ( 1-0 ) of the Reds. Lohse pitched eight innings of shutout ball and the Reds beat the Cubs 1-0. Lilly went 6 innings and gave up one run on only 2 hits and he struck out 10. Lilly and the Cubs are the hard-luck loser and the Cubs fall to the Reds 1-0.

In Arizona, Tony Clark hit 2 homeruns off of starter and loser Byung-Hyun Kim ( 1-2 ) in the first four innings and the Diamondbacks held off the Colorado Rockies 6-4. Arizona with their win improved to 9-4 and the Rockies loss droppped them to 5-7. Arizona wins 6-4.

In Los Angeles, the Dodgers celebrated Jackie Robinson Day in style clubbed the San Diego Padres 9-3. Andre Ethier hit a homerun and had four RBI to pace the Dodgers attack. The Dodgers ran the bases like Jackie Robinson stealing 5 bases and came up with timely hitting to knock off the Padres. Randy Wolf ( 2-1 ) pitched 6 innings and struck out 7 batters. The win sent the Dodger faithful home with memories they can tell their grandchildren about. Jackie Robinson will invoke lots of great memories anyway, but the celebration at Dodger Stadium is a memory that will last a lifetime. We will look at that very boxscore in which the Dodgers clobber the Padres 9-3.

Results from April 16th

In the American League,
In Boston, on Patriots Day the Red Sox scored 6 runs in the first inning, after the Angels Orlando Cabrera hit a solo homerun in the top of the first, and hammered the Angels 7-2. David Ortiz went 2 for 3 and hit his 4th homer of the season. Manny Ramirez chipped in with 2 RBI in that 6 run first. Josh Beckett ( 3-0 ) earned the win going the first 6 innings as the Red Sox improved to 7-4.

In Detroit, Royals starter Zach Greinke threw 49 pitches and NEVER got out of the first inning. Add a little magic off the bat of Ivan Rodriguez who hit a grand slam homerun in that first inning and then drove in 2 more on a double in the 2nd inning and the Tigers roared to a 12-5 victory over the hapless Kansas City Royals. Carlos Guillen hit a homerun and drove 4 runs himself and the Tigers move into a virtual tie for 1st place in the Central division. All the run support made a winner out of Justin Verlander ( 1-0 ) who earned his first win of the year. Tigers beat up the Royals 12-5.

In Tampa Bay, the Rays jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings but did not have enough pitching to hold on as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Rays 9-7. The Orioles hit 3 homeruns in the final four innings of play to help aid in their most impressive win of the year, so far. Freddie Bynum hit a 2 run homerun ( 1st ) in the 6th inning, Melvin Mora hit a 2 run homerun ( 3rd ) in the 7th inning and Aubrey Huff closed the scoring for the Orioles with a solo homerun ( 1st ) in the ninth. Jeremy Guthrie ( 1-0 ) earned his first victory for the Orioles and Chris Ray picked up his 4th save of the year. The Birds win 9-7.

In the National League,
In Philadelphia, the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies were postponed because of rain. This game will be made as part of a day/night doubleheader on June 29th. First game will be at 1:05pm EDT. You can get into the ballpark for that game with yesterday's ticket. The second game of the doubleheader is a 7:05pm EDT start and you can only get into that game with the ticket marked for Friday, June 29th. Mets and Phillies postponed because of rain.

In Washington, Dmitri Young had 3 hits including 2 doubles and 2 RBI in support of Matt Chico ( 1-1 ) 5 innings of work as the Nationals won their 2nd straight game beating the Atlanta Braves 5-1. The Nationals after getting off to a 1-8 start have now won 3 of their last 4 games including 2 straight against Atlanta. Atlanta despite loss are 8-4 and in first place in the NL East. Washington now improves to 4-9. Washington beats Atlanta 5-1.

In Cincinnati, Bill Hall broke open a 4-3 game in the 7th inning with a grand slam homerun ( 2nd ) and the Brewers win a slugfest 10-6. Rickie Weeks chipped in a homerun ( 4th ) and Cory Hart drove in 2 runs with a double as that paced the Brewers attack. Chris Capuano (2-0 ) earned his 2nd win of the year giving up no earned runs of 5 2/3 innings pitched. Brewers win 10-6 over the homestanding Reds.

In Houston, Morgan Ensberg played hero in the bottom of the ninth with a RBI bases loaded single with no outs in the ninth as the Astros beat the Florida Marlins 4-3. Mark Loretta helped this offense as he hit a 2 run single in the 6th inning to give the Astros a short-lived 3-1 lead. Chad Qualls ( 2-1 ) picked up the win in relief and Kevin Gregg ( 0-1 ) who got no one out in the ninth inning and surrendered Ensberg's RBI single took the loss. Houston is now 5-6 on the season.

In Chicago, the Cubs got good news and some bad news. The Cubs earned a resounding win over the jet-lagged Padres 12-4. The bad news is Alfonso Soriano, their rich free-agent signing during the off season, injuried his hamstring while trying to make a diving play in the outfield. To what extent the injury is, is unknown at this time as the Cubs have him list day to day. The Cubs after the injury got a lift from Cliff Floyd who went 2 for 3 with a homerun ( 1st ) and four RBI. Jason Marquis ( 1-1 ) got the win going the first 6 innings. Cubs win, Cubs win.

In St.Louis, Xaiver Nady hit a 2 run single with the bases loaded in the first inning giving the Pirates a 3-0 lead. Then the Pirates with good pitching Ian Snell held on to beat the Cardinals 3-2. Snell ( 1-1 ) went the first 7innings giving up one run on three hits to earn his first win of the season. Salomon Torres came in to the game in the ninth and earned his 5th save of the year. The Cardinals are now 1-5 at home on the season as they lose to the Pirates 3-2.

In Colorado, there was an actual Barry Zito sighting. He was carrying a fist full of dollars after not earning a paycheck for the first two weeks of the season but he was still carrying the cash. Zito ( 1-2 ) earned his first win of the year as he went 6 innings giving up no runs and 3 hits and walked 3 while striking out 4. With the 6 shutout innings Zito lowered his ERA to a " respectible " 5.29. All of these positive signs pointed to the Giants clubbing the Rockies 8-0. Bengie Molina ( 1st ) and Ray Durham ( 1st ) hit homers for the Giants and Omar Vizquel had 4 hits and 2 RBI in support of the $126,000,000 man. He might even share some of that as he picks up his first win over Colorado.

In Arizona, Brad Penny improved his record to 3-0 as he continues to be the ace of this Dodgers staff as the Dodgers beat Arizona 5-1. Juan Pierre and Nomar Garciaparra each had a pair of hits and Pierre scored 2 runs as the Dodgers in support of Penny beat Arizona 5-1. Penny went 7 innings and gave up a run to raise his ERA to 0.89. With the win the Dodgers move into first place in the NL West. Dodgers 5- Arizona 1.

Now that is all for yesterday's games but let's take a closer look at one of the boxscores from yesterday's game. The game selected to be viewed at one more time will be the Padres/Cubs. Hopefully we will see you at the ballpark, but if we can't see you there, we hope to see you right back out there. Have a great day everyone.
