BCS: Did they get it right or did Michigan get screwed?

Two sides to this arguement could be made.

Side 1: Yes, why should Michigan play Ohio St. again? What did Michigan do that Florida didnt do? If Michigan wanted to play for a championship they should have taken care of business the rest of the way and sure up a spot in the National Championship picture.

Side 2: No, Michigan gets screwed because no wants to see a rematch when rematches happen all the time in the pros. Plus its not they're fault that they didnt play the last two weeks so no one could see them in action.

This would how ever be solved rather simply if the BCS would just use a playoff system or just allowed the writer themselves to vote. Lets be honest, a coach isnt gonna vote against his own team when talking national championship, and computers are only as good as the data its fed. Unless one of these two things or something comes along better, expect to see a team every year get screwed out of playing for a title.

This is just my opinoin, but I think they got it right. I said it in another thread once USC lost.

Florida deserved this shot. The SEC is tough. And I really wasn't impressed by the arguements that they didn't beat teams "enough". They won games. They won close games. They proved that they weren't going to fold if they got behind, and that thier gameplan was flexible enough to succeed if things didn't go thier way out of the gate. And, I'm not saying this out of any team loyalty...I'm a Penn State guy. Out of all the big Florida teams, I'm actually a fan of the 'Noles. So, this isn't personal, just football.

Michigan already played thier game against Ohio State. It's not that I don't want to see a rematch just because it's a reamatch, I just don't think one is neccesary or appropriate given the situation. (And again, I was seriously pulling for Michigan in that game, so this is still not personal.)

The system isn't perfect. But, you're never going to see a playoff system. The BCS is more concerned with preserving the Chik-Fil-A Bowl and making influential alumni happy than doing anything fair. But, it's the system we have and changes are made every year to try and adress these problems. I mean shit...why doesn't Boise get the shot, they're the only other undefeated team in the country? Perhaps the system is right and no one wants to see Ohio State paste Boise to the tune of 68-3. Who knows?

All I know is that it should be a good game. I have nothing really personal vested in either team and can just watch a good game of college football.

Just remember...the obvious choice has fallen to the underdog in many of the last several Championships.

Should be fun to watch. :triangle:

Right or wrong it doesn't matter; it came down to people not wanting a rematch rather then #1 v #2 - its pretty obvious that USC was 2nd before losing to UCLA and Michigan was always 3rd, and why should you penalize a team when they didn't play.

Maybe there is some bias to my opinion being a Miami U fan, but would this of happened if Ohio State lost that game? Either way it would be a good game - interesting to see how Smith plays on the big stage.

I'm fine with it because the game really should involve conference champions, but you could also say that the two best teams should be playing, we're not really sure who's better, Florida or Michigan. On shows i've seen and heard, so called 'experts' say Michigan would be a 3 or 4 point favorite. The other salty aspect is would Florida have moved ahead of Michigan in the standings if USC had won? I doubt it because all that truly matters is who finishes 1 and 2. A playoff involving the top 4 would be pretty intense.

It was a shame how Urban Meyer and CBS whined and campaigned their way in. Florida did have the toughest schedule and only lost once, who knows, it sure is a mess though.

There was a lot of talk about bringing Urban Meyer to Michigan after Lloyd Carr retired, not now. I'd rather have former U-M boy and current LSU coach Les Miles in here.

No, they didn't get it right, but no sense squawking about it now. Nothing we can do or say will ever get this system right, and most likely we will go down the same path again next season. Only two things are certain:

Michigan will take its frustration out on USC

And Ohio State will beat Florida by 50

oh wait, got one more

the ratings for the National Title game be so low, they wish they did put Michigan in the game. Serves them right

Cry yourself a river. If you guys wanted to be in the National Title game then you should have beaten Ohio State. I was hoping for a rematch for your sake but knew you didn't deserve it. Your team as the ranking put it were 3rd. They unfortunately did the right thing.

Your certainties:
1. USC is just as mad, for other reasons but still.,so we'll see.
2. Not even close, if Florida loses, 50 won't happen.
3. Bet you're wrong.

Florida played a harder schedule and ended with the same record as Michigan.
Michigan did nothing Florida didn't.
Good Call.

Don't think that Ohio State won't win this game because they will. It is just a matter of how much. Florida will lose by at least 21 points. But I agree, if Michigan wanted to play a title game, they should have beaten Ohio State. Instead they took a 7-0 on the Buckeyes then the Buckeyes made it 21-7 before Michigan knew what hit them and Ohio State did not trail again. Ohio State was looking back at Michigan all the way to Arizona in their rear view mirror knowing that they had ruined the Wolverines season.

People said the same thing about USC and UCLA. I don't know what will happen, but I saw about ten of Florida's games (in the south you see all of the SEC games), they're not #2 by accident, they have a team and a half. Ohio St. might have a better team, but when an unranked team beats a team with National Championship hopes, it reminds you what can happen.

USC took UCLA for granted. Something Tressell will not do with Florida. Besides, there would be NOTHING better than to see that CRYBABY Coach of theirs get beat by 50 points.

Mght be nice to see, but you won't. Not by 50. What makes him a crybaby? Wanting a spot for the Nat. Champ. game? A spot they deserved. They barely got beat by Auburn, who I think was #4 and undefeated at the time, played many ranked teams, and won. They're no.2 without a doubt.

10 points hardly qualifies as 'barely'. The 3 points Michigan lost to OSU by was 'barely'. You claim that as a good loss even though they've lost twice and are #9 now? Michigan lost by 3 to the #1 team all year long.

Florida beat South Carolina because they missed an extra point, and the SEC championship because the punt returner made a huge mistake by trying to field a punt in the end zone, those games were given to them. Having said that I did mention in an earlier post that Florida earned their place into the championship because they did win their conference, but for you to say 'without a doubt' is an incorrect statement. Michigan would be favored in a game against Florida.

Urban Meyer lost a lot of credibility by his whining, and yes...he did whine, that can't be denied.

I do hope Ohio State wins by at least 3 touchdowns. (did I really say that? lol)

If you're gonna get picky, in the Auburn game, Auburn was up by 4, Florida had the ball the last play, went for a hail mary, the QB stayed in the pocket longer than he would have if it hadn't been the last play, got hit, fumbled, and Auburn ran it back on the last play. Officially it was 10, but technically it was 4. Being SEC champ is impressive, look at the top 25 and the SEC teams there. How many ranked teams did Michigan play?
