I don't know why some ppl are so down on truckies. Have you seen the sign on the back of most trucks that says, "without trucks Australia stops"? Its true, I looked around my house this morning and apart from me I cannot find one thing that at some time would not have been on the back of a truck. The clothes you wear, the food you eat, the furniture you use, everything. A lot of drivers are doing their job while you and I are tucked up cozy and warm in our beds or out having a good time with family and friends. Its one of the most underpaid, over regulated and stressful professions there is. We look at them sitting in the cab of their trucks and think, that cant be so hard all they do is sit on their bums all day (or night). Take a run from Sydney to Brisbane for example. If they are an independent driver they first have to spend hours on the phone trying to find a load that pays enough so they can actually make a quid at the end of it, once found they have to make their way to the depot (usually through heavy traffic), and wait in line to be loaded or to load themselves. Hopefully they leave the depot some time between 8pm and 10pm. These guys have to eat at some stage but you try finding a truck stop that has something healthier than fast food junk. Good luck. God forbid they need to take one of their mandatory rest breaks. Where are they supposed to do that? One of the few rest areas that hold half a dozen trucks if you're lucky. Pray that no weighbridges are open or if they are they are not manned by some over zealous twit on a power trip or that his wife gave him a hard time just before he left for work and he is looking for someone to take it out on. Did you know that a driver could be fined for misspelling the name of a town in his logbook? So this poor bugger has run the gantlet for the past 10 hours. He arrives at his destination somewhere between 6am and 8 am. They line up to be unloaded get a few hours zzzzzzzzzz and then do it all over again. Did I mention that on the way back to Sydney the load is classed as a backload and is only worth about 2/3's of the money. Same time, same fuel, same wear and tear on the truck but less money. Work that out.

So net time you see a truckie, wave, smile, don't cut him off, be friendly. You just might make his day

Right on, man!

I can't even say what you said; I've been on the back of trucks a number of times! He he.

In the US too, trucks deliver everything we use.

We call 'em truckers.

Keep on truckin'!

Thanks

Thanks Mastertank, being a truckie here in Aust it's nice to see someone gets what I'm saying

You guys are the knights of the highways. I always make it a point to let a trucker pass, or give him room to slide into a lane.

Talk to General Zod of this forum. He can tell you tons of stories about trucking throughout the US.

My father retired as a trucker. Everything we eat, wear, and buy in general got to the store by a trucker.
Truckers are one of the most important occupations to our way of life.

Peace and love to all truckers, be safe out there.

Aloha, John.

Having driven larger trucks for about thirty years I do understand what you mean. Some people don't understand that big rigs can't excelerate like the family car and need more room to stop when you are hauling twenty or more tons and need more room just to make a turn. It can be a very stressful and demanding job.

i will always be nice to truckers...my dad was secretary/treasurer and accountant for a small trucking firm...it was his life..during his final weeks while he was still at work, he worked so hard to get them a bonus..

long live General Zod....

My dad was a truck driver....and he could kick your dad's butt:jester:

He never did the "Coors" run to Texarcana, though....:whip:

When I was little I wanted to be a truck driver when I grew up. Sometimes I'm sorry I didn't do it.

Thanks

Thanks for the feed back everyone, I was just having a bugger of a night on the hwy and needed to have a spit. It isnt an easy job sometimes but i wouldnt change it for any other. Moonlit skys, the stars and cb chatter. What a life 🙂 See you all on the flip side :wavingguy

Keep on trucking my friend Without us,the world stops Been driving big rig just over 11 years Been to all 48 continental states, and 5 Canadian provinces

I know exactly what you mean about finding places to park when you have to take your break It seems like there are too many trucks, and not enough places to park

Take the state of Virginia for example.......... In the state owned rest stops, they only allow you to park for two hours Say I am on my ten hour break and I have been there over two hours A cop will give me a ticket for being there too long Then give me a ticket for driving while I am out of hours :ranty:

Then there are the states that have a split speed limit One for cars, etc and one for big trucks Like Illinois for example 55mph (90 or so KPH) for trucks and 65mph (110 KPH) for cars etc Safety issue my ass It's just about the state getting extra money

A bunch of politicians are trying to make the speed limit the same for everyone However the governor Blowjobavich keeps shooting it down I will go to my grave hating that man :ranty:

Don't feed the bears now (cops):wavingguy
