which of the classic covers do you like most?

for me, the many YES album covers were just like pieces of artwork - they could be hung in a modern art museum.

Black Sabbath...with the older house and Ozzy standing by a tree..for some reason i love that cover...and All the Eminem covers..Korn has some really cool ones

The White Album...

Simple and straight to the point. It says we're getting back to the basics, we're the best at what we do, and we'll let our music speak for itself. No gimics.

now that is a blast from the past.

when i was growing up, my older brother would buy every disco album he found. and he had this one.

i actually liked, and still remember the song.

Yea thats actualy one of the many aliases of one of my fave artists of all time Alec R. Costandinos. There was much more to this guy than just hard disco..he even did a soul LP with Tina Turner (which is very rare to find) along with some good rock and pop tunes not many know of.

totally off topic, but for some reason i just thought of nick lowe's "cruel to be kind", and how much i like that song. you don't hear it nearly enough on the radio.

Well of corse you'd think of that one..didnt you produce it Mr. Elvis Costello? 😛 Great track BTW!

didn't elvis just marry a very pretty, famous person. either that or he's dating her. now who is it?

and oddly i am "tickled" to be styled after him, unintentionally of course.

Any of the classic jazz album covers by the Prestige label or the Blue Note label from the 50s and 60s.

LOL..hell i dont know who he married or is dating recently, didnt even know he was still active. He was and still is one of my fave New Wave/Rock artists of the late 70's and early 80s (When he was known as Elvis Costello & The Attractions). After that he kinda faded off and had the 1 hit in 89 with "Veronica" and then recently that brief cameo in the Austn Powers movie. Costello rocks!😀

I'd like to nominate Hotel California and Born To Run....and of course, Frampton Comes Alive for best album cover art: white boy 'fro category

I've always liked Tool's album covers... Lateralus and Aenima were both really cool...

In answer to The Baron's question....

Elvis Costello just married jazz singer Diana Krall.

Cool thread, Baron!

Little Feat, "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" cover art by neon park aka Martin Muller: Jayne Mansfield and George Washington riding through the mountains, lightning about to strike.

Herbie Hancock had an awsome LP with the same name😀

I forgot all about Neon Park, Lite. I remember the "Sailing Shoes" cover with the cheesecake on the swing, and "Waiting For Columbus" with the tomato gal in the hammock.

I got to go with Tron on the White Album. Awesome cover. Awesome album. Had a great poster inside too, as I recall.

One of the most striking album covers would be King Crimson's "In the Court of the Crimson King." Closup of a terrified screaming face, tonsils and all.

The original release of The Rolling Stone's "Satanic Majesty's Request" had one of those hologram thingies in thick plastic glued to the front cover. It was basically a psychedelic design that had the faces of each of the four Beatles hidden. Rumor was that it was the Stones answer to Sgt Peppers.

Frank Zappa had some great album covers. Overnite Sensation, Waka Jawaka, and The Grand Wazoo come to mind.

I couldn't agree with you more. I would buy the albums just cuz I liked the way the covers looked. One was nicer than the other. Then I got to like the music afterward.

Going off topic for a second, it kind of reminds me of What's Happening when Rerun (God rest his soul) picked a football team because he liked their uniforms.

Personally, I became partial to "Whipped Cream and Other Delights", by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. For it's time, the cover got A LOT of attention, since the girl in the picture was (mostly) covered with only..............
😛 😀

First off, Nick Lowe's 'Cruel To Be Kind' is a great old gem. I've loved that one from day one. I have the 45 down in my basement, purchased at Two Guys on a Saturday afternoon near the end of August 1979. How do I remember? I was there to pick up the just released "In Through The Out Door", Led Zeppelin's last LP (four different covers, inside a brown wrapper), and they were all gone. I now play it on an imported Nick Lowe compilation CD.

I can't believe no one mentioned:
PINK FLOYD-Wish You Were Here
LED ZEPPELIN-Physical Graffiti
BEATLES-Abbey Road
PINK FLOYD-Animals
BLIND FAITH

Two other more or less obscure ones: Blodwyn Pig, a psychadelic group from the Woodstock era, with its picture of a pig on the cover, and a late 70s pop/rock group called Fotomaker. Their 'Vis-a-Vis' album featured a picture of a clown in a dunce cap on the cover which was hilarious.
